We aren't all in Junior high. This is perfect for my aging parents. Bought them both smart phones and they just couldn't get the hang of it.

Here are some instructions that may help you - they are a combination of instructions I found on reddit. So they are not my own, but I just used them successfully to port out a tracfone number without any issues:

The Tracfone (TP) PIN is not the one on your account page!! Tracfone changed their pin process. You text NTP to 611611 and it gives you a 4 digit pin for port out. I learned this the hard way. Also, you need to use a new pin # for every failed port out attempt.
First, you can text FOUR to 611611, which helps you identify your account number by providing the last four digits of that acct number. Then text NTP to 611611, that's the pin to use for this port out attempt and then you'll need to use the ZIP code of where you lived or where you bought the phone when you first opened your TF account.

Sidebar about Tracfone - Bought Tracfone phone at Walmart about 6 months ago. Phone works fine. Read online that they now unlock after 60 days instead of the old 12 months so I decided to get it unlocked. Unlock didn't work. Tracfone says that phone was not scanned out by Walmart properly. Walmart says they can't scan it now since that would result in a 2nd sale. So have a phone that works but can't be unlocked.

The 1200min/txt/mb does not reset. This is an ANNUAL plan. If you use up the allowances before 365 days, you can buy more minutes, texts or data from Tracfone, Target, Walmart, eBay, etc..

It runs on VZW network. The device comes with a VZW SIM card pre-installed.
If you buy additional service time to carry you over 365 days then yes unused balances would carry over.

I don't have an existing TracFone account, so can this be bought and just used as a stand alone device for a first time user of TracFone?

Stay away from TracFone if you value your number, once they have it they will never release it. I have been trying to port out my number for past 3 month, they keep changing info in my account without my permission just so the port out will fail.

I know that problems do happen with Tracfone and customer service is bad but these are not sufficient reasons to advise people to avoid the service given the affordable plans they offer. I'm a long-term TF customer and have introduced most of my family members and friends to TF. In fact, I manage over 6 active accounts on TF. Most problems can be resolved if you seek help from an experienced customer or the executive resolution team at the corporate office.

A Tracfone SIM is stuck with the phone upon activation. Useless in any other phones. To transfer the service to a different phone (suppose your Tracfone handset is dead), you need to buy a new Tracfone SIM pack (very cheap online) and call for activation.

I got one for my dad awhile back. It works well for calls but his biggest complaint is the ringer is not very loud nor is the speakerphone.

This is a great phone for the tin foil hat crowd. You can do very basic internet stuff on this with KaiOS--even watch Youtubes--without all the tracking of IOS/Android.
