I was stuck on 5 mobile + 1 tablet line for a long time; almost 3 years, whenever I tried to add a line I was told that I was at the maximum approved, even though website says upto 10. Spoke to XM customer service many times but never got any reason / explanation
Last year when Comcast had the "$30 off internet if you add a line promo" - I applied for that; initially ran into the same issue, but this time contact was with the Xfinity Internet side customer rep (since I was talking about the internet); he escalated to a higher level CS person who reviewed my account and raised the limit to 10.
You may need to find a way to escalate; if the CS tells you that you are at max approved, ask to speak to their supervisor / manager, and go up till you find a person who has the authority to raise the number of eligible lines.
Seems like a lousy way to build business, but what do I know.

They aren't looking at mobile business per se. They're using it to keep the internet customer "locked in" longer - by providing the XM phone service with lower cost (for low usage customers) and phone promos.
If you're not a Xfinity Internet customer - the phone promo doesn't make sense - because you'd have to sign up for internet first just to get the mobile offer; and if you terminate internet, you have an additional fee of $25 per line tacked on.
If you're a high usage customer (unlimited) - cost wise, 1 unlimited line on Xfinity is at $45 vs Visible at $25. Even with the "free phone" for 24 months bill credit - you're better off buying the phone on Visible (currently 150$ gift card offer on price of $449) - and having an unlocked phone + flexibility to move as required, instead of being tied down for 24 months on XM.
If (like me and a few others) - you already have multiple lines with unlimited talk and text, low shared data requirements; adding a line on XM to get the free phone is just the taxes (in my case, $2 per month) - so getting a new Pixel for "free" at an incremental cost of $48 over 24 months is a darned good deal. In return - Xfinity is assured that I will be sticking around on the internet plan for the next 24 months... or paying them if I terminate early..
You will need to open the box since usually XM puts the sim either in box or in the phone (in some cases) . Initial activation of the port-in usually requires you activate the new phone (the Pixel).
After activation - you can choose to move the sim back to your iPhone; it should work as is, you may get nagging emails from XM about a different device detected yadda yadda.
Also note that the phone would be locked to XM for 24 months until the bill credits are over (or you pay off) - and to unlock, you may need to put the sim back into the Pixel.
All in all - if your intent is to get the phone, sell it off and continue using the iPhone - that may not work. OTOH

Like I said on previous phone deals, but yourself the max limit of 3 SIMs and save it for when a phone deal pops up. I have 4 Ting SIMs unopened just in case I need a number.
If I'm reading this right, I can get 3gb of shared data for $30/month + taxes and fees, and no line access charges? Saving $40/month (soon to be saving $52/month when Verizon's price hike kicks in) and still using the same network with the same data priority since this would be an XM shared plan?

You also don't get nagging e-mails about using a different phone. It's only noted in your account under devices. I've never received an e-mail or text from Xfinity telling me I'm using a different phone.
All in all - if your intent is to get the phone, sell it off and continue using the iPhone - that may not work. OTOH
You can also use the phone as a trade-in with another carrier. A lot of carriers don't require the phone to be unlocked for trade-ins.
