Got mine, seems well made. Been looking at the $100+ name brand ones, so I'm happy to find this. Now to find a 'Dakine' sticker that can cover 'Hyper Tough'!

Don't waste your money. If you have a truck just throw the bikes in the bed. That's what it's for!
With my kids riding bigger bikes, it's getting harder to fit my family's bikes in my truck. Used to be I could put the two big bikes on the hitch mounted rack and and fit the two small bikes in my bed.

But can't really fit the two bikes in a bed easily anymore. The loading and unloading is actually one of the reasons why I'm not as eager to go out on family rides now. So have been looking into other options.

And there are SO many options and negatives to all of them. I'm the type of person that gets all twisted up if there are too many options and factors.

So it sounds like the negatives to these types of pads is that there are complaints about how dust and grit gets stuck underneath the pad and scratches up the paint on the tailgate. Also people complain that it rubs against the tube of their bike rubbing away the paint at the contact point.

There are some reviews and comments out there saying that these pads are the best or most convenient options.

Also quality might matter. You'd think Yakima would make a decent pad but there are reviews out there saying how the straps or something aren't great on it.

I think if I come across a decent deal on one of these pads, I might go ahead and get one. Besides questions about the quality(not saying it's bad quality, just saying it's unknown), this one wouldn't fit my truck.

I'm not against the horizontal hanging bike racks and have a two bike version that has served us well. For some reason that style doesn't seem popular and people prefer the ones that hang the bikes vertically or holds the bikes by the tires. But it does make an already long truck longer and I think four bike racks start out around $400, depending on which ones you're looking at, compared to $100 to $200 a pad. So might get a pad for now until I come across a decent deal on a four bike hitch rack.

I've seen people mention using blankets. But my main concern is having to secure the bikes down and keeping the blanket from flying away, which might not be an issue with the bikes on it. Kind of like the right tool to the job, yeah you can get it to work but maybe the pad will make things easier. Same thing when I lay bikes down in my bed. It's not that much but still I try to strap bikes in after laying it down. In theory with these pads you can just throw it over the tailgate and wrap the strap around it and be ready to go.

I'm mainly replying back to people asking why they would want this type of pad. If this specific one works and does it's job, it's great for the money.

Hah hah.

People vacation to bike at ski resorts, stay around the area for a few days. They may take a group to a local riding area. Maybe they live close to several biking people who can all get in the truck to drive to a trailhead. Maybe someone drives their family to the trailhead. Anyway, there's a limited number of scenarios where someone needs this vs. a normal bike rack for 1-2 bikes.
That's not true at all. Most of the people who ride at my main trail system have pickups and use some version of this kind of tailgate guard. Attaching a bike rack and getting bikes into bike racks is a royal pain, these you just throw the bike over the gate and velcro it down. Other problem is like if you have, say, a carbon full suspension bike you need an expensive rack to be able to mount it without harming the frame.

I've honestly been in the market for a pickup truck SPECIFICALLY to get one of these to transport my bikes around. These gate transport pads are pretty much the best way to lug your bikes around if you have a pickup.
