AquaWater09901 have you confirmed that this works to get you to 28MPH? Also recognize you have the Big Swell I believe. Have been trying this on the Big Sur, as others have said, perhaps with other models as well they haven't been able to change it.

Perhaps you even have a different LCD Display? I can see on the back of mine it says it is Model AK47.

I have tried searching for hacks on Model AK47 but haven't come up with anything, but see this is in fact the display as quantities can be bought from Alibaba etc, showing this display.

I did notice I can get to some type of undocumented menu on mine with PO levels and settings by holding down the up and down at the same time while the display is on.

Edit:

Ah, I figured out how to remove the limit!!

These PO settings look to be standard.
So get to the PO settings by holding the Up/Down at the same time after the LCD is on.
Click on the power button to go through the PO's.
PO8 is the limit! This is in kmh, this was set to 32, bump this up with the up arrow to 41. That is the max I could change it to. This works out to 25.5 mph.
After this change I can get to 25mph going down a hill.
On a straight road I can cruise at about 22 with full throttle. Pedaling fast like crazy I can get it up 24.

So this is a bit of an increase. Perhaps with a bigger front sprocket I could peddle a bit normally and get to 25.

Perhaps it is a limit of the 350W motor or the battery to get me with throttle to 23 or so, but I don't think the controller itself will let me go above 41kph with motor assist.

Possibly changing wheel size, PO6, would allow assist at faster speed?

FYI, I see some people have commented about their having 5 instead of 3 levels. This can be set in the PO5 setting.

Here are the PO settings for an entirely different controller, but they look pretty close from what I see. https://elecbikeparts.com/pages/s...ser-manual

There could be some other cool settings to see what they are and work with them.

for example: P12 PAS Start Strength
0-5, Higher = more assistance
Amount of assistance given when you start pedaling.

I am thinking this must be low. It seems to give very little help right away. Perhaps a safety feature set at factory? But I want help right away!

Or PO9 might affect how quickly it helps?
P09 Throttle Response
0 for instant throttle, 1 for delayed throttle
Sets whether pressing throttle and motor beginning to spin is instant, or whether there is a delay between the actions.

Edit: P09 was already set at 0 and can't be changed
P12 was set at 3 and can't go higher, but it can go lower.

FYI, read on this site https://power-bicycle.com/ebike-power/ that hub motors are pretty much limited to 25.

"Once the ebike is travelling at 25 MPH, the controller-wheel speed is maxed out. You can't go far over 25 MPH on most hub motors unless the motor & controller pair are designed for higher speeds."

This guy also talks about a smoothing circuit the mfgs implement for greater distance. Something about a loop back wire that can be removed to increase initial assistance but at
a sacrifice in distance.

Is this random china stuff?

Not a lot of reviews. I got a warning going to this site (possibly fraudulent?).

Why don't they sell any ebikes on their non-corporate site?

Is anyone else concerned this is a knockoff? Joyridebikes.com is the original site (since 2001) selling Hurley and joyridebike.com (since 2015) is painted with 'weird' all over it.

I changed the speed limiter setting to 0 - unrestricted on my big swell and I did not gain any speed. I also enabled cruise but I haven't figured out how to "set" the cruise yet.
Does it work if you hold the top 2 buttons for a few seconds like the guy above said?

Yup, in order to unlock class 3 you must press and hold these 2 buttons until the backlight flash's. 28mph is still my top speed. It could be possible to change the tire diameter to trick the controller but I haven't messed with that yet.

Hope that works out to be the case for you. I will say that the math is pretty solid on this. For you to get 30 miles of range either the battery needs to be stronger than advertised (hard to imagine) or the motor needs to be pulling less power than advertised. I don't know of any other magical variable that would allow extended range outside of those two factors unless you find a way to go down hill there and back again!

Not trying to talk down the bikes at all. This is a great deal. The bikes with the 10ah batteries all look like they could be easily replaced with pretty standard battery packs which is a huge plus for me. Hope you enjoy the rides!
I did 24 miles on my Amped St before it dropped to a single bar. Not sure how much farther it would have gotten. It's rated for 20 miles so I wonder about those stats too. Only thing I can think of is I might weigh less/paddle more than what the calculations are based on?

Throwing my experience on here:

Ordered Hurley Big Swell 1000w bike on 8/21, received 8/29. I'm in southwest. Bike was packaged well, covered in tons of foam zip tied to keep it in place. Bike was mostly assembled, just needed handle bars and pedals put on (handle bar post was on backwards out of the box also). Charging to full from out of the box took about 3 hours. Tires already inflated.

According to the display I did 16 miles and used 25% of the battery bar on first ride. Speed was limited at 20mph / Pedal assist 5. Holding the top two buttons, "+" and "i" until the screen dimmed momentarily (About 2 seconds) removed the limit and allowed me to get up to 28mph. Turning off the bike or going back down to pedal assist 4 or lower put the limiter back on, and the process had to be repeated.

I had to retighten the handle bars once, but after that no issue. Pedaling while using pedal assist felt like I was basically doing nothing no matter what gear I was in. Had to turn it off to get anything resembling exercise.

Love the bike, happy with the purchase and packaging. Had a great time zipping around town. here. I can't comment on any hill stuff, it's totally flat here.
Excited to get my Big Swell! Couple question...

How do you find the difference between level one and level 5 for pedal assist? Can you get a decent amount of exercise with level 1?

How long does the bike take to get up to 28mph on flat ground approximately? Does the acceleration feel good?

Any issues with the shifter?

Received Big Sur, put together and plugged in the battery. Nothing is lighting up. Is the battery charged prior to shipping and lights are just not working?
Anyone have a similar problem?

(Thanks in advance!!)
Did you get your battery problem resolved? Tomorrow will be two weeks I haven't been able to even take the diablo to around the block. With the battery not charging I want to be able to send it back. I should have bought the one at my local Sam's club for $399.00

The pedal assists all feel about the same. Lvl 1 = 10mph cap, Lvl 2 = 14, Lvl 3 = 18, Lvl 4 and 5 = 20. Once you remove the limiter 5 = 28.

If you're pushing faster than the level's speed cap you could get some exercise there. I'd argue you don't really need assistance in that case though Smilie on flat ground at least.

I did a speed test for ya, and it took 11 seconds to get to 28mph from a stand still. The acceleration feels good to me, I didn't find myself wishing it would pick up any faster unless I'm trying to race a car or something like that.

The shifter felt a little slow to engage for me but it gets there. However, on flat land I don't find myself doing any shifting really. The up shift lever is hidden under the handle bar. I like it in 6th gear (of 8)

Damn! I put the Betty in my cart and thought I should hold out for a day or so. I'm expecting a new credit card with a 200 bonus for spending 500. But it was sold out an hour later.

Yes probably a decent back log of getting orders shipped, another member created a new thread on scooters using the same coupon code I provided

I hope that keeps working that well for you. Your bike seems to have a 36v 5ah battery, 180 AH (36x5) - so a 250 watt motor wants 250 watts per hours... you've got 180 watts to give it and that gives you about 43 minutes of power. 250w motor probably get a normal fella up to 17 miles per hour or so on flat terrain so 43 minutes of that is what... 12 miles of actual distance the bike will push you, there abouts anyway.

Any further than that should just be the amount you pedaled (baring hills, wind, that sort of stuff). All this is optimistically assuming that the batteries are actually as rated and on low end e-bikes that is rarely the case.

Again, not trying to dis on the bikes at all. But I think the math is pretty solid on how motors and batteries work, the marketing however is often quite fuzzy because they can be like... it'll go a hundred miles on a charge, just pedal a bit more.

Thanks for your input. I've used it mostly for paddle assist and I think that's the key to getting more miles out of the range. For me, it's just like a regular bike except you don't get tired after a long ride.

The only issue seems to be finding a replacement battery. There doesn't seem to be much out there that fits the bike.

Any thoughts on the build quality/fit and finish? How comfortable is it to ride?

Would you say it is really more of a moped first and bicycle second? How is it ergonomically when you actually pedal? Does the power feel adequate?

Under 1400 for something with a 1000w motor, hydraulic brakes and decent range is pretty tempting.
