The Gateway didn't automatically ask to update to windows 11 even after checking for updates multiple times. It didn't say there was any errors though like one poster was dealing with. I just had to use windows install assistant to prompt the download.

I'm going to keep the Acer. As much as I wanted to keep the Gateway because it had better specs, I could not deal with how bad the touchpad is and how
loud the fan on the gateway sounds.
My main computer is a desktop, so I just wanted a laptop for travel and doing some work out of my office. The screen and touchpad sealed the decision for me, unfortunately.
I may have just had a bad unit, so definitely check yours as maybe it won't have these issues.

also, after all this daughter said she just wants to keep her chromebook...for a year or 2.

but most issues i have read about were on the blue one.
no major issues , that i can recall, on the black one.
i have black one.
& as u said .. really want to like/keep the GW
