If you are actually going to use the account or can auto pay some bills with debit, you might consider Evansville Teachers Federal Credit Union. 3.3% for up to $20k balance with 15 debit transactions and a monthly dd. The dd can be a deposit from almost any bank. I auto-transfer in $10 from ally monthly and have the cable bill to autopay $2, 15 times a month to earn the preferred rate.
Boo...
Bonuses are for people who don't have existing Chase checking or savings accounts, or those whose accounts have not been closed within the last 90 days. Keep in mind, you can receive only one new checking and one new savings account opening related bonus every two years from the last coupon enrollment date and only one bonus per account.
Left Chase earlier this year for Sofi because of the sign up bonuses and interest rates.
Sofi currently has a 1.8% interest rate on both checking and savings and Chase still has a 0.01% Savings interest rate even after all the Fed hikes.
Obviously the Chase bonus is great for bonus churners and the people who actually go into banks in 2022 but I'm not switching back for 0.01%.

Sorry, I should've been more specific...looking for a zero fees account for a friend who lives in Canada (and is a senior..if that helps) but wants the convenience of a US bank account when visiting the US....she had a Chase account which charged $4.99 a month regardless unless balance was over $1500....she didn't use the account for a long time due to covid and was hit with all the service charges...got a bunch removed, but still would like a true NO FEES account with no minimum balance requirement if possible....will this 5th 3rd work? Maybe I could open a joint account there?...or open my own account and refer her for a referral bonus? haha lol
I have 3 no fee, no min balance checking accounts. T-Mobile Money (1.5% APY or 4% on first 3k with 10 debit transactions a month) CapitalOne 360 (no interest), and Wells Fargo. I'm not sure if the WF has a transaction requirement. It's my primary acct that I use for everything.
Oh, and it's not a checking account, but I also have a Venmo MC debit card that draws from my Venmo balance. I have no idea if Venmo is available to Canadians.

I heard in the news that this offers targes 3 people. Apparently there are 3 people in the US who dont have Chase accounts. 2 Are homeless and 1 has unknown whereabouts.
I don't understand Chase. This was likely created as an incentive and at the same time they are implementing a hefty fee for checking accounts. I believe $25 per month. Far more than what I pay for an advantage filled credit card. The one criteria to avoid the fee is maintaining at least $15k in checking. Sad for those in a low income bracket.
got some questions. so let's say i don't do my main payroll direct deposit but just have some minor expense reimbursements direct deposit to it.. does that work? for example i get reimbursed $35 for phone and $35 for internet per month. i'm thinking this would work and then i just send $1500 from my other checking account into the chase checking. any issues that i'm overlooking?
