From personal experience, it's much less cluttered with ads, consistently snappy and plays well in the apple ecosystem. Negatives are it doesn't have the same level of functionality as a shield.

The power cord is not proprietary. It is a pretty generic cord that is found on many small appliances and electronic boxes. The cord end looks kinda like a figure 8 or infinity sign. Try searching "C7 power cord" for a picture.

Airtag would be nice! I picked one up during the prime sale as well. One nice feature is that you can use the Remote app on iOS to control it if you happen to misplace the remote.
Previously I had the 4k Fire Sticks on all TVs in the house. One thing I hate is that mixing up the Fire Stick remotes is so easy to do. Searching the house for the "correct" remote for a particular TV is very frustrating.

I'm almost ready to cave on this, resisted anything Apple, feels like selling out. Just went to the dark side with Sony OLED so might need some extra streamers for it.

That's strange because in my experience, 3rd party ios apps run much better and have functions not found on their android versions. Can't comment on netflix since I don't use them but in my case. i.e. disney+ runs smoother on apple tv than it does on my shield.

I recently got it from Amazon prime day sale and it is my first Apple TV. My LG tv apps are running slow this year. It is fast for half price of shield. Only issue I have is volume buttons goes out frequently. Googled it and it is common issue with Apple TV. I also have google tv in the bedroom. So far google tv works better from my experience.

YES, one of the best things about it, Chromecast works great. Sony ("Prime Day Lightning Deal" Sony 65" A80J ) just felt intrusive and non intuitive like a basic TCL TV. I finally got it to cooperate with my "non supported" gear. I may give it a rest and not push my luck with a new platform like Apple to deal with.
