Be careful as Fi wants the number you ported to be on this phone to get the $600 discount. They check nightly and they find out the number is on other phone then they will charge the $600 on your CC after 4 months. I got the Pixel 6 when it was for 399 and used the Fi SIM on my Essential PH1 and got a notification that Promo guidelines not met and they would charge the discounted amount to my CC.
Many of us got this deal not to keep GFi but to get the phone cheap accounting for the 4mo usage and terminating after that. Getting an unlocked S22+ for less than $500 total with no trade-in. No complications.

Leave the GFi sim in and use your regular service via the eSim as the primary since it comes unlocked. The Google Fi app shows the countdown timer to 120 days and them you port your number back to Google voice.

No need to make it unnecessarily complicated.
Unless you live in a State without tax and fee you will NEVER get $20 a month

More realistic is somewhere between $23- $26 which end up to $92 - $104

… so you didn't follow the rules, which everyone here has specifically stated over and over again to never to put the sim in a different phone.

Make sure you take the referrals from old users and not new ..else second month credit won't apply .. it will only apply on your 3rd statement ..
Shouldn't be an issue since one has to be on Fi for 120 days to meet the terms, right?

Link to the warning please? I haven't seen it. I thought 4 months of service is all you needed. Having the phone hooked to that number was something I did not anticipate.

Any SDers care to comment on experience with Google Fi? Considering moving 3 lines from T-Mobile and adding 1 ($80/month vs. $140/month).
I have both GFi and Tmo on the same phone S22+ I got from this deal earlier. GFi runs on Tmo network. But I have noticed the signal strength is a bit less on the GFi at times (have both bars with dual SIM). Not sure if this is a prioritization issue or an artifact of dual SIM. Have never used the data on GFi. Coverage will be the same.

But the good thing about GFi unlike other MVNOs is that you pretty much get the entire phone usage benefits of TMo including international roaming, etc. So you won't miss much from moving from TMo, especially switching as a new customer. However, if you depend on Tmo EIP to keep upgrading your phones in the future, GFi won't work as well.

I came from Tmobile as well. Voice was better but data is bad. This is in McKinney/Frisco area in TX.

It's $20 a month at the minimum. Then you get charged $10 per 1GB of Internet used with a maximum of $80 a month. It will prorate down to the cent, or at least that's what they advertise. So if you use 0.01GB one month you get charged $20 + $0.10.
That's very outdated information. Google Fi now offers unlimited plans for much less. $50 for a single line, $20 per line for a family plan with 4+ lines.

I did this deal about a month ago. Left Verizon because I was having issues with data in one part of town. Oh MAN, did I mess up. I checked the coverage map before I switched. Amazing full spotless coverage everywhere I go. Perfect! Got the phone, lose coverage (in perfect reception areas) for minutes at a time. On a regular 1hr 30 min drive I make several times a week, where the entire drive minus a 2-3 minute rural spot is in full coverage on the map, I have zero, absolutely zero reception for about 40 minutes of it. And its in 5-10 minute blocks throughout the trip, much of it on the freaking interstate. I had no choice but to buy a SECOND phone so if I get in a car accident in those 40 minutes I have the ability to make calls. Oh, and I had to force my phone to US Cellular towers for this performance, with the T-Mobile towers it defaulted to, I had no service for data in my entire (perfect 5g) city.

Now the best part, Google Fi customer service is horrendously bad, feel free to check Reddit for more information. But if you get in on this deal, you must activate the phone and then keep it active for 120 days. If you do not, for any reason, you will be charged the $500 and will have to fight it. Even if you RETURN the phone within the RETURN PERIOD, they have charged multiple people $500 after the phone was returned, and then you are in a battle to get the money back. So I'm waiting for my 120 days to be up, and saying goodbye to these morons forever. I expected something branded by Google to be ok. It's a nightmare. Please. Don't.

As a counterpoint, we've experienced excellent coverage with Google Fi. Much better than Visible (which is Verizon-based). It's been very difficult to find a place where I don't have a signal.

That said, this is probably very dependent on your area. In the Midwest, Google's use of the US Cellular network as a fallback provides outstanding rural coverage. On the highway to visit family in Nebraska, there's a long section where Visible drops out. Google Fi never dropped below 2-3 bars and always had at least LTE data, and often 5G. At our state park campground in Arkansas, I expected no signal, but I had 5G all the time, even out on the water on Beaver Lake.

See the previous long thread.

You don't need to hook the phone to that number, you just cannot use that SIM/number on a different phone. Activate it, take out the SIM, store it in a drawer and use whatever SIM you want on this phone. Or use the dual SIM feature to put your other SIM in.

After 4 months cancel the GFi service.

People using this to flip phones on eBay may encounter issues.

Someone who's a little knowledgeable on fi please tell me if I got this right. It's a pay what you use kind of service no? So if I were to pay the first month, and not use it much if at all, would I be able to basically keep service for the next 4 months basically free? I'm asking because I basically have another service I can use
Hey, there. You have to pay around $20 for the base service monthly, which includes unlimited calls and SMS. The "pay what you use" bit is for data. Around $10 per GB. If you use a lot of data, you can opt for the unlimited plan at $50 monthly. Hope this helps.

No, not with the number your ported to GFi to get the deal. You cannot use that ported number on another phone.
