It's the heavy metals that really make this spice "pop".

I've started making my own out of Cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. Feel free to throw in any other spices you like. It's great stuff.

I opted for the premium taco seasoning 24 oz. $5.06 with 20% coupon and 15% S&S.

I bought the Premium and then went back to look at reviews, ingredients, etc. After seeing that 1) the primary ingredient in the "premium" is cornmeal and the primary ingredient in "original" is spices (although "original" has fewer spice types, it has the important ones), and after reading a bunch of reviews that did not like "premium" as much as "original", I checked if there were packets of "premium" to see those reviews, and there are not, which is weird, "premium" is only available in bulk. I have tried and know we like "original", and don't want to get 1.5lbs of "premium" to find the fam doesn't like it... "gritty" is not something we look for .

I cancelled and went with "original" for the extra 2 bucks after coupon and S&S discount (my total was $7.79 including tax), feels worth it to know what we are getting, especially given many of the "premium" reviews stated you need twice as much of the spice or more to get the same flavor as when following the directions with "original" (which also makes it more gritty), ultimately that would make the deal on "original" cheaper.

What you mentioned is confusing. Are you saying you liked McCormick Premium Taco Seasoning Mix or McCormick Original Taco Seasoning Mix ?

I originally ordered premium because it was cheaper for 1.5lbs. We have only had the original and liked it, we have not tried the premium. After reading reviews and the ingredients of premium, I decided not to risk it, cancelled the premium order, and went with original for $2 more.

The main ingredient in premium is corn meal... corn meal is not a spice, it is a filler/thickener, and can affect the texture in a negative way. The main ingredient in original is spices.

Hi I see premium is more expensive at $7.40. It has Yellow Corn Meal as one of the ingredients
https://a.co/dgoSXTj

Original is $5.73. It has corn starch as one of the ingredients
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...0DER&psc=1

Not sure why you are saying premium is cheaper than original. Original has corn starch which is probably worse than corn meal..

You aren't comparing like quantities, your price is for the 8.5 OZ size, while the premium is 24OZ. Original 24OZ is $11.34 before discount. As far as ingredients, they are listed in order by percentage of the product... the first ingredient in the list will be the largest percentage component of whatever is being labelled. Corn meal is the FIRST ingredient of eleven ingredients in premium, and corn meal has a grainy/rough consistency, while corn potato starch is the forth of seven ingredients in the original mix, "spices" is the first ingredient, and starch typically has a very fine powdery consistency.

If you woulda told me yesterday that I would be in a detailed discussion of the nuances of different McCormick taco seasonings... I wouldn't have believed you... well, maybe I would have, sometimes SD pulls me into weird places Big Grin.

There's only one way to settle this epic premium versus original debate. And it's the slick deals way: buy both even tho I need neither.

Understood your point about qty price being different. However, I am not sure if first order in the ingredients list means highest qty of that substance...I hope that's the case and appreciate you taking time in explaining.

Be careful with subscribe and save. Last month they cancelled 4 items of mine saying they ran out. So I should have just had them delivered regular instead. Maybe it's their way to get us off subscribe and save like how you can use gift card easily anymore for them.

Pretty insane how many "extra" ingredients can go into even a basic seasoning mix. Reading the ingredients list was enough for me to decide to make my own.
