The Switch OLED's were selling for like $500+ during COVID and were impossible to find in retail stores. Not sure what you're talking about but this is as low as I've seen them.

They literally didn't even exist in 2005. Your comment is a real head-scratcher.

Hardware don't get worse with time. It will always play what it can play when you buy it. It will never "degrade" to the point that you can only play "tetris"

I kinda agree but they're not really comparable, people buy nintendo for the nintendo exclusives, there is no alternative

Great deal if we were back in 2005
Quote possibly the most ignorant comment I've read this year. Thank you for your dimness.

For what it's worth, Nintendo has said they plan on supporting the switch til 2027... And there's supposed to be another switch model coming out this year
The switch "pro" continues to be in the works. It's been coming since we got the first one.

when is the new model suppose to come out ?
There is no new model coming soon. It's all speculation and nothing has been said officially by Nintendo on it. The OLED switch is the new model and was released in October 2021.

The regular Switch should've been this price a long time ago. Hope this is a sign of things to come soon.

Don't wait… buy now and you'll receive in mid to late 2023! 🤣
Actually new orders are slated to ship Oct to Dec of 22. My availability date was Aug to Sept of 22 and I received in July. Value has doubled the number of units shipping per week recently and had another update last week the supply chain issues (for them at least) are no longer holding up production.

BTW, I have not touched my Switch in over a month. The Steam Deck is so far past what they promised it to be (even with non-Steam games).

This is a 'Switch killer' for anyone who can live without the few Nintendo exclusives, especially with all the free AAA PC games given out weekly.

If a yes I am in finally on a Switch
I don't believe the 5% applies. I purchased toothpaste a few months ago and went back to check the points it earned and it was 1pt per $1 sadly.

I love the Steam Deck but I still play the Switch for online multiplayer with family / friends. You can emulate Switch games on Steam Deck but some run a little poorly in terms of framerate in the emulation and you can't play any of them online on the Steam Deck.

Yeah, the amount of Steam/Raspberry people on SD always comes across like a bunch of farmers coming into a Yelp thread saying "You know you can just grow your own food, right?"
Your analogy of 'growing food' might apply to Raspberry builds but the Steam Deck comes out of the box & ready to play a library of games that dwarfs the Nintendo offering (and no, I am not counting the 95% of shovelware games on the Nintendo online store). Plus, your games will be far far far cheaper.

I'm busy AF and love that the kids have a reliable console to use.
As long as your kid is over 10, they can figure out the Steam Deck. Size and battery life might be a deal breaker for a kid though.

Don't get me wrong, I have zero against the Switch, been rocking it hard for the last 2 years until my Steam Deck arrived. No more paying $30-60 dollars for a 10-15 year old game, on worse hardware when 2-3 year old games they are FREE games daily for PC (right here on SD). On top of that Humble Bundles etc make buying dozens of games cheaper than a cup of coffee.

My Switch OLED will be on eBay this weekend. #noregerts

Lowest was $299 for OLED blue/red switches from walmart preorder. Not sure why they dropped the price that low but I didn't complain.

But normally $349 that come in and out of stock every few days.

I can see multiplayer being a draw for the Switch. While you can still play multiplayer with the Steam Deck you are playing against those using a mouse and keyboard. In an FPS you'd be so handicapped it would not be any fun*, at least with the Switch everyone is on a level playing field.

*Actually I was playing Back 4 Blood the other day on my Steam Deck. First time playing but I was holding my own with the other 3 players who clearly knew the map well (I assume they had at least some experience with the game).

Yuzu and Ryujinx are Nintendo Switch emulators.
Get the Steam Deck and play everything including those Nintendo exclusives.
Switch OLED's display is so much better than a LCD display. I have a Switch OLED and a desktop PC w/ 3070 Ti, and my 512GB Steam Deck I was waitlisted for just came up and I have to make a decision in the next day, but the problem I am having is that the LCD is going to be a massive downgrade after being used to the Switch's OLED panel (and my plasma TVs). I've also streamed my PC to my iPhone 12 Pro Max, and the OLED on that is similarly good, though streaming introduces too much latency so I stopped doing that. I didn't play much Switch handheld when I had a V1 LCD model because of the display, but OLED changed that. I wish Steam Deck did better docked at 1080p, but seems it dips below 30fps in a lot of games at 1080p? Still tempted because handheld PC gaming is something I would use, and Steam Deck has a lot going for it despite it having an LCD display. I do use an IPS LCD for desktop PC gaming, so at least it won't be a complete downgrade in display tech for games I play on PC. But I doubt I would want to emulate Switch games on it when I have a Switch OLED.

tl;dr; Switch OLED's display is so good, I doubt Steam Deck + emulators is a better option for playing Switch games handheld.

OLED is good but only if you have all of them screens infront of you to compare. Otherwise you will get use to it and then intial impression will fades away.
