Check your phone for compatibility first. My new Pixel 6a is incompatible with wifi calling and VOLTE on Tracfone verizon even though it worked great on my Samsung. Took a day of troubleshooting after transferring my number from the Sam and several calls to determine and get the answer from them. I live in a rural zone and MUST have wifi calling, so switched to a plan that supported it...
Tracfone is horrible, bad service, and no good unless you're ready to give up your number. They will never transfer out, they keep changing your zip code without your permission so the port out fails. I'm stuck for 4 month now trying to transfer out, and once they screw you over they won't deal with you until you renew for another month. Buyer beware, STAY AWAY!

I've had tracfone for 20 years and very seldom any problem

Only 8 years for me, but I have zero complaints about their phones or service. In fact, they've probably given me the equivalent of 2 years' free service over that time.
What is the absolute cheapest way to get a couple of months' service?
I have run out of rewards points & have to wait for some more from a line just posted in. I have a bunch of roll over mins etc & just need to extend my service which is running out in a few weeks.
Fwiw, I'm a newbie compared to the last two posters. About 2 years. Signing up was brutal. Everything went wrong & customer service made it so much worse.
But once I fought my way through that it's been working for me. All for in initial investment of $30 which included a phone.

You should be able to get a 3 month airtime 'card' for $20. I think both TF and Target sell them. I think you can get one month cards too, for $10.
That's not the cheapest monthly rate over a longer time frame, but for 3 mos or less, those are the options I know of.

I've had tracfone since 2004 with no issues. I recently ported my number over to boost, it take a few days and tries. I am still keeping tracfone as a back up with a new number.

I have had Tracfone for years, no problems. Tracfone is great for me but I am one of the few people left in the world who can actually breathe, walk, drive or just function in life without having a cellphone in my hand.

Watching 1 minute of YouTube on my phone the other day reminded me that needing anything more than TracFone-level service is about 99% based on whether you feel the need to watch videos on a screen barely the size of a credit card! Without video streaming, I can get by on <<100MB/mo of cellular data, and I use the phone whenever I'm out and need to know something from the internet. I suppose those whose phone is their ISP for home use as well, also need better plans. It's about a wash whether you pay the $$ to your cellular provider, or your internet provider.
I put my son on Tracfone for 1 year (he's in Middle School) and I'm not a fan of their service. Although we have a week left of service, I'm porting him over to RedPocket and will be trying them out for a year on a Pixel 3. If the service isn't great, I'll put him back on Tracfone.
Tracfone customer service has become unbearable. They are unable to help and when you ask for a manager they say I am a manager. Their new policy is everyone is a manager. Very frustrating.

I've successfully ported out several Tracfone numbers just in the last year. The most recent was 3 weeks ago.

Whether the sim cards are really loaded with time, text and data seems like a constant issue.
