I'd disagree on numpad. Highly useful for literally any situation you need to input numbers (including making calls).

This laptop is amazing. Outrageously thin and light for how powerful it is.
Has an antiglare screen.

I run autohotkey scripts from half my keyboard. Having the numpad is great because it's technically different than the top row #s. If you use your laptop for productivity or anything that can be scripted, AHK can be invaluable, and better with a num pad.

I don't get why the trackpad being off centered is an issue. Ergonomically when you pull your hand down it doesn't naturally go straight down, your arm retracts to the right as you pull - so it being off centered to the right makes sense (unless you're left handed?)
Right hand always needs to be more tilted at the wrist, you also keep rubbing your palm on track pad edge... Telling you my experience

got it. actually I think with correct typing posture only your fingers are touching the keyboard as the base of your hand should always be elevated. if you hang your hand down then yes I can see why you'd rub it. but it's also not an ergonomically healthy thing to do longer term

This laptop with Ryzen 7 6800U would have been excellent not only for CPU+GPU performance but also for excellent battery life.

Most likely this was designed in collaboration with Intel so they may not use Ryzen processors at all.

Gonna have to go in in store and play with this laptop some more. Can't mentally see any issues from testing it out for a few minutes. I was really only paying attention to the new matte screen though. Since I use my laptop on my lap and never on a table, I'm wondering if I won't have any issues. Would hate to buy and return for this reason.

I have a Lenocvo Legion high end gaming laptop (although gaming really only happens on a desktop) and the off-center track pad is a 100% deal breaker agreed. I will never ever buy a laptop with an off-centered track pad. In fact the number pad needs to go as well, I'm not using this thing as a calculator or a phone so no need for a numpad. Damn designers, they should be forced to use the terrible things they make.

How does that model compare with this one, that is on a close-out price: https://www.costco.com/lg-gram-16...07302.html ? Looks like the deal on this post is better for an inch bigger and a newer processer for the same price?

If you're looking at a 16", why not get this one with newest CPU: https://www.costco.com/lg-gram-16...71144.html

This is also a 2 in 1 model if you need that option.

The 2-in-1 is quite a bit heavier (3.26lbs) than the regular 16" (2.6lbs), so if you don't need the 2 in 1 functionality, the regular 16" may work a lot better.

Yeah, the cheapest the 32gb version has been so far is $1600 (surprisingly, at launch). Even if it goes back on sale for $1600, it will still be $500 more than this, which is just too much of a price increase for the additional 16GB RAM and the 1TB SSD (which really doesn't matter considering the laptop has 2 upgradable m.2 slots).

I may consider the 17" 32gb when it goes down to say $1400, but that may not happen until much later in the year or early next year.

And those are significantly heavier then the Grams. Haven't looked at the specs in a while, but I think the 17" model of the Ultra PC is over 4lbs, so really not comparable to the Grams.

A Gram 17 with a 6800U + 32GB DDR5 + USB4 would be my dream laptop and will be an instant buy.

same here, wait for 32GB model in black. [costco.com]...
Am I missing something, or are they really charging an extra $700 for literally 16GB extra soldered to the motherboard (worth perhaps $50, being generous), and a 1TB SSD instead of a 512GB SSD (worth perhaps $50 extra, again being generous)?

Same processor, same screen, etc. etc. So, $700 extra for literally $100 worth of upgrades (at retail, consumer prices).... Hmmm

Suggestion: If you must have a gram, learn to live with 16GB, and add a second 1TB SSD if it has a second m.2 slot (and I think it does). $600+ savings, and you end up with 1.5TB of storage, instead of 1.0TB in the $1800 laptop. Of course, then you will be stuck with 16GB forever... (cue echo, and ominous music)

You're in luck. They have one:
HP ENVY 17.3" Touchscreen Laptop - 12th Gen Intel Core i7-1255U - GeForce MX550 - 1080p - Windows 11.
$1249.
How bad do you need touchscreen?
