"I own this, and I'll still say you'd be crazy to pass up the Bosch at $179 for this.
I actually own this one with the plunge base, and I bought 1/4" bar to fit the Bosch edge guide to the Metabo router. I did this because the Metabo edge guide is cheap garbage. Even after converting, it isn't as good as the Bosch since the Bosch mounts the edge guide with 3/8" rails for a truly professional and stable router.
I also bought the Metabo with plunge base and accessories for $99 a couple years back, so I'm not as scourned since it's decent. But, If I had bought just the router for $69 and then had to buy a plunge base that is hard to find, then had to buy a bad edge guide, then had to buy a different edge guide, then had to take time and money to make it work...well I'd feel foolish for not just getting the better Bosch.
Bosch 1617EVSPK Wood Router Tool Combo Kit - 2.25 Horsepower Plunge Router & Fixed Base Router Kit with a Variable Speed 12 Amp Motor https://a.co/d/g6Qjadn
The Hitachi (Metabo HPT) router is a good motor. If you are putting this in a router table this might be perfect for you. Just don't fall into the trap of thinking this is a good system to build off of for a plunge base and edge guide."
So the Bosch is back up to $259, so the choice isn't as obvious. Just be aware that no matter what you buy for the Metabo, it will never be a proper kit like the Bosch. It is however a wonderful router motor.
If you're satisfied simply removing the motor to change bits, and adjusting bit height manually within the Hitachi/Metabo base, that's a non-issue. I bought a cheapo Ryobi table from DTO and have mounted my Hitachi under it. Adjustments and bit changes aren't difficult, but the precise depth control you get with a lift aren't there.
