Later I re-checked the listing and price jumped back down. Went to checkout and paid, thought it was ok.
Today I see my credit card pending activity and it shows the charge followed by an immediate refund.
Ebay purchase history page says "Your payment didn't go through, so the order was canceled." Strange.
Looks like seller is pulling bait + switch scam, luring buyers with temporary lower price and then rejecting payment unless they get caught by the jacked up price. Could not leave ebay feedback for rejected purchase, so I reported the item listing. However, ebay loves protecting scammers so they won't take any action.
