Honestly after getting fitted, this is more about finding the combination with the driver shaft. Unless you're really good, I would opt for the most forgiving driver, and then find the best shaft combination that works.

The nice thing about PXG is they are great at customizing for almost no additional cost. When I did my fitting, they picked a Stealth+ and a shaft that was same cost as the driver which was insane. With the PXG driver, I got similar results for considerably less cost.

And I would add that the shaft matters alot more than the driver itself after my fitting.

For the average golfer who plays MAYBE twice a month, how is a $600 driver "amazing"? I'll bet most people on SD looking for deals fall into that category because you're almost never gonna find deals on Ping or Titleist clubs or most any of the "top" brands. And I'm not gonna lie, I've been playing for about 10 years and have NEVER spent a lot of money on clubs. I just don't feel like I play enough to justify it.

Like he said, if you don't get that an premium aftermarket shaft cost extra $300, and you probably won't because you MAYBE play twice a month, you wouldn't get why this is a great deal. Surely you wouldn't be able to justify expensive upgrades if you don't play much. I play at least once a week and I can't even justify upgraded the shafts.

Compare to other main stream drivers, which start at $600 with their crappy OEM shafts, this is an amazing price, regardless how one feels about PXG brand or their marketing. Unlike other major brands, PXG doesn't have the volume for shaft makers to mass produce "made for" version of the shafts so even PXG's no upcharge shafts are more real deal than what you would get with big brands.

I have been playing for 25 years and have never spend a lot of money on clubs. You think your ZX7 for 800 is a great deal? You could have had a full set of Gen 2 0311, or 0211's with your choices of shafts for ~$600.I believe their Gen 3 0311 is now around $800 for a full set. To give you a reference for my SD level, my previous set was a set of like new Z Forged 4-P with Tour Issue shafts for $400. LOL My previous driver was a M5 Tour 9* head which I paid $100 for, while selling a 10.5* head for $150, which was from a driver I bought a year earlier for $150.

Last year I pulled triggers getting a PXG Gen 4 driver & 3W, then a set of 0211ST irons, all together for ~$1200, all custom built to my spec with my shafts of choice. I even ordered one of the irons with softer and lighter graphite shaft while the rest are steel X flex. The prices are really laughable compare to what other name brands want these days, so it was a why not? I think I'd have to go back at least a decade for any new top tier driver to be sold at 299, and iron sets at 699.

I wouldn't touch their wedges at $350 a pop.. Even $150 each for the current rate is insane in my book.

Sorry, but how is $600 for a driver "amazing"?? I'm about to pull the trigger on a new set of Srixon zx7 irons for just over $800.
Where are you finding zx7 irons for $800? All I'm finding is over $1000

At PGA Superstore. That's for 5 clubs(6i-PW) with graphite shafts.

If you think you are getting a $300 shaft with no upcharge on your driver, you are crazy. No doubt certain fitters like Club Champion will overcharge you a bit, but a true premium shaft is still going to be a few hundred dollars and the zero upcharge options that come on drivers are non-premium shafts. Even PXG still upcharges $300 for a high end shaft like a Graphite Design Tour AD (which is what I have on my Taylormade and what I paid for it). Of course there's no guarantee that a stock, no upcharge shaft will perform noticeably different than a premium one for any particular person--that's the value of a fitting.

If you think you are getting a comparable shaft with no upcharge, you are crazy. Premium shafts cost $300 or so and they aren't throwing them in with a driver. Most of the stock, no upcharge shafts are non-premium and not up the same performance and quality control standards as the high end ones. Even PXG is going to charge you $300 more for a Graphite Design Tour AD shaft, for instance, which is what I have on my Taylormade and about what I paid for it.

Now whether that premium shaft makes a difference for you over a stock one is another question and therein lies the value of a good fitting. An expensive shaft could actually be worse for you than a cheap stock shaft if weight, flex, torque, etc. aren't right for your swing.

Not a traditional B&M like Golf Galaxy or PGA Superstore. PXG is more of a DTC model. They have 16 fitting locations but I'm not sure you can buy & leave with equipment the same day. The clubs are custom built and shipped from AZ.
This is correct. They have the same prices in store as they do online. You can get fitted and your clubs will arrive in about 7 business days. No shipping costs when you get it delivered to the store, so it's a bit cheaper.

They have free shipping through Labor Day which is a really good saving. I think I paid $60 in shipping for a set of irons last year. I also paid $30 in shipping for an 0211 driver this year. These were separate orders and I was annoyed the shipping costs were so high. One consolation is that the hardware is packaged in a sleek sturdy black box and everything was wrapped, padded and protected.

I don't think he is saying he got the shaft for no up charge. He's saying he tested a Stealth with a $500 shaft and got similar results with a PXG and an upgraded shaft for less than the Stealth + $500 shaft. In other words, he's saying he got a driver with a better shaft for under $1,000, and got equal results to a $1,000 Stealth driver.

Personally I'm curious whether that Stealth shaft was fitted to his swing as well as the PXG one. Or if the PXG shaft would've yielded better results with the Stealth than the shaft that was on the Stealth. That would've been an actual like-for-like test.

in for one, fitting happened this morning. Took the full hour and hit just about every shaft they had available. Amazing deal for new tech off the tee.

edit: Also, free shipping sealed the deal.

It looks like PXG actually charges for fittings? It's only $50 but still kind of annoying when most places do the fitting free if you buy the club through them.
