US Bank refused to pay my bonus, even after I showed them screenshots I had saved. Never again.

FYI, they will try to screw you out of your promo bonus, by claiming the account was not opened with promo code included.

since usually any promo will require you to wait from 90 days all the way to 6 months (perhaps more), they can easily get away with it.

not even showing the evidence will help.

just beware

Since there is a monthly fee on promo all offered checking account, how soon can you close the account after getting deposit?

What qualifies as direct deposit? Would deposits from our Airbnb property work for this?

Find and support your local bank! We dont need a banking system monopoly it is already out of hand..

I went to my local Huntington bank, They took over the local regional bank TCF. Wow what a change for the worse. If you are like me you probably have a change jar you toss in your loose change. I had a ziplock bag full of loose change. They would not take it! I had to have it all rolled up first! They told me it is the same policy at US Bank, Wells Farge, every one is like that now or so they told me. I ended up going to Walmart as they instructed me too, but right before I gave coinstar their 10%, I light bulb went on in my head. I went to the self serve check out and paid with my loose change instead of my debit card. It took a lot more time, but I was pissed and was on a mission. I ended up still needed to use my debit card to complete the transaction, because it was more than the coins I had. Next time I am going to do the same thing, but when it comes to paying the last part of the transaction, I will cancel it and see if the machine spits out the coins value in the form of paper money. What a pain in the arse and proof as the banks consolidate, cutomer service evaporates.

US Bank does not pay its bonuses. Had their CC and charged the required amount. Had wife's CC and also charged required amount. US Bank refused because all the charges had to be on one CC. How lame since it was a business account.

I opened US Bank checking account earlier this year and had no problem with $400 bonus, roughly 2 months after promo window (not from opening day or direct deposit day). I also opened its credit card account last year and received $500 bonus. It's pretty good experience
Same case. I did two 2k deposits within a month the bonus came two to three weeks later.
Closed my account right after.

Cool story bro.
This is not supporting big banks, its taking advantage of big banks, read the posts to do the hack.

I did this end of last year, successfully. Make my DD within 60 days and then within 60 after that I received the $400 no questions. I kept the minimum balance and paid no fees. I have since closed it.
Promo valid once per two years, so not yet again for me.

Yea I supose your are right. I guess I should have just down voted based on poor merchant rep. These guys were never on my list of banks to use since they stopped cashing checks written to me, from that fricken branch.

Well, it's really neither here nor there in this context. Smilie I was just sharing my abysmal experience with US Bank. I do still have a couple credit cards with them, but I rarely use those either since my one and only chargeback dispute took just under 1 year to be resolved. They dropped the ball numerous times and each time my case was handed off to a new person, that person was allegedly "no longer with us" when I followed up. The case would never have been resolved at all had I not managed to reach the VP's office. I'm a very low maintenance banking customer too - doing nearly everything online and rarely having a want or need to interact with anyone. Unfortunately, US Bank is just so tragically bad that issues occur often and take ages to resolve.

I had checking accounts from a few major banks in the past many years. But US Bank is the only one that has never given me an 'exception', such as waiving overdraft fees and other charges, regardless personal or business accounts. So I generally skip it to avoid the hassle.

I have been with US Bank for nearly 20 years but lately have been seriously considering switching to another bank. What other banks should I consider?

This is the 1st bank i closed the account on as soon as i could. It is hard to get the bonus and to contact anyone who has a clue. I could do it again it has been over a year but never ever again with this bank. Good luck getting the bonus which i never have a problem with other banks.

Annoying if it's the only way.
Seriously? The average American income is just over $31K. After social security, taxes, insurance premiums, and retirement contributions (which you are hopefully maxing out), you'd pretty much need a 6-figure income to even get $4K/month take-home pay. What about financially responsible people who have serious savings thanks to being frugal, but aren't part of the boujee 1%? I guess US Bank would rather have $8K from someone who has no concept of saving than 10x that from someone who has pinched pennies their entire life for retirement. F those elitists.
