Whats the normal price? I assume this will work on the new flow x16 right?
$1399. Even on sale, this is not a good price. One review found that the 3080 version of this performs better and uses less power. If I remember correctly there's also some overhead/loss from being external (even with the proprietary connector) that puts the 3080 version on the level of 3070 (and it might even be the mobile 3070, in which case its likely more comparable in sustained performance to a desktop 3060 or 3060Ti). With prices going where they are, for the price you could almost build a desktop offering similar performance.
I have a ROG Flow, and very briefly considered buying the XG Mobile back when graphics card prices were insane, but got some sense and now with prices becoming sane again as well, I cannot recommend this. For half this price it'd be worth that value. So wait for clearance pricing or til they release a new one, or probably the best option, wait for TB4 laptops to become common.

Are you saying that the RTX 3080 version of the dock works like a mobile rtx 3070? If that so, then you understood it incorrectly and confused it with the loss with thunderbolt based external GPU due to 4X PCIe bandwidth. Time for you to revisit the review again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yD5axbw1BCg
You'll find that sometimes in 1080p resolution, this mobile RTX 3080 actually beats a full desktop RTX 3080 connected via TB3 based eGPU enclosure. Being external actually helps because now it is not restricted by the thermal and power constrains of the laptop chassis and that also helps the laptop to push more power to the cpu as the internal GPU not being used and the internal cooling solution only being used to cool the CPU.

It doesn't change the fact that even at $1k it's crazy overpriced. You can get an open box Asus 15.6 advantage edition for around the same price and it would perform similarly when hooked up to an external monitor. Then you have the flow and a whole other laptop. Even as someone who owns the Z13, I cant see myself buying this until it's half this price (and even then, probably not, as I already have multiple options for higher end gaming--z13 is cool/unique because of the form factor and power). If you want to make it an all in one solution, then go for it I guess. But for $1k you could almost buy the guts of an entire high end gaming PC (a 6900xt and a 5900x together for $1.1k)

No, it won't because inside a laptop chassis, that will be power and thermal restricted to around 125-135W during CPU + GPU load at max.
and You did not get the concept of this dock in the 1st place. if you are okay with a full fledged heavy gaming Laptop which you want to carry everywhere, there is no need for this product. This Product is for their ROG Flow products where you can have a less that 3 lbs 2-in-1 (Rog Flox X13) or a Tablet (Z13) which you can use and carry as a Ultraportable device and that can be converted into a gaming machine using this.
To give you a weight comparison, the combined weight of this Dock and the Rog Flow X13 is still lighter than most full sized gaming laptops. And the thing is, there is no other product in the market which can do that. Asus could actually have charged it way higher than that since they're the only company doing that.
Love this concept and glad to see the dock proces going down. The initial pricing is what scared me away in the first place. That said I'm no longer in the market, took too long for discounts like this to show up. Went with a big gaming laptop and a portable laptop for less than the single solution would have cost.

Unfortunately it isn't apples ot apples as he uses an intel based laptop vs the flow x13. Still a good upgrade for anyone that wants a laptop to take around and then "dock" it home for some nice gaming albeit on a 1080p screen as 1440p and ultrawides would probably make it not so great. I personally liked this setup and do have the XG mobile with a 3080 and at the time it was 1499 from ASUS due to the shortage and such but it's worth it if it was suited for your use like my case. Everyone will have different opinions on this but really comes down to if it works for your setup.

I see this might be better than buying a Thunderbolt 4 docking station.
I'm using XPS 9520 with Iris xe. Thanks in advance.
