I'm still going to see if I can least get the normal S22 256Gb variants. I see those in stock.

He felt bad about it and offered some ideas that didn't make sense. Flip4? Nope, I'm trading in the Flip3 because I don't want a Flip anymore. Ultra model? Nope, too big and a lot more extra $. Base S22? Nope, battery is too small. He considered trying to get the Verizon model and seeing if they could mark it down but they said they couldn't take it down that far. So I suggested they take $50 off the S22+ 128gb. Because to me it was a no brainer to originally pay the $50 difference to double the memory. Now it just didn't feel right getting half the memory for a $50 difference. $100 difference, however, was better. To my surprise they issued me a $50 gc. To be honest, I'd still rather pay the extra $50 on the trade in to get the 256gb model but who knows if any of these opportunities are going to be around when/if they come back in stock.
And thanks to everyone who posted tips about how to get the rep to be successful doing the trade in. I helped him along when he was talking into his communicator asking how to do things and everything you guys said worked, right down to when and how to apply the promo code. He actually said it was the smoothest trade in process he's ever done (that was before the phone went out of stock). Good luck to the rest of you. I think the prices go up after today.

I would had done the 128gb and done same process as you but I'm so done calling/talking to people either the phone or in person LOL

He actually said I could hold on to the phone and not open it. If the 22 plus 256 model comes back in stock just come back in and trade up. Not a bad idea but as I was walking out of the store I realized that may be hard to pull of because my receipt shows I "paid" $299 for the phone (after the $500 coupon). So there's that hiccup, and also the fact that the phone may not be $799/$849 at all after today.

Too many unknowns!
A few months later, traded in one of the S21's for a Z Flip 3 + Buds 2 + $100 in Samsung code, for $400, I think. That Z Flip 3 is being traded in for a Z Flip 4 + Watch 5 and Buds Pro 2 for $171 after taxes. The $100 Samsung GC went towards a bunch of 256GB micro SD cards.
The other S21 I just traded in at Best Buy for an S22 & $81 in BB GC, which I used towards case and protective film and blue rays. That S21 had a few hairline scratches on the front glass, as well as a small chip, but BB did not count it as a crack and thus recognized full $800 trade-in credit.
Tallying up, for less than $700 out of pocket over 2.5 years, two pairs of phones will have gone through two generations of Samsung flagship phones (with full warranty), two pairs of ear buds, latest gen smart watch, and half a dozen 256GB micro SD cards. I know the more experienced SD'ers have done far better, but this already has been a pretty wild ride. All without being tied to any carrier for a long term and having to deal with bill credits!
Long live SD and Samsung! :-) And many thanks to the SD'ers who post the deal details.
If I were able to buy the 256GB version then I might keep it for a long time. 128GB is just not enough. So I'll be trading it in for the upcoming S23, which should make it an even better deal because they usually don't care about the storage. I should get the same trade-in value no matter if it's 128GB or 256GB.
Went to Best Buy today, traded in my S21 for S22 Unlocked 256 GB.
I thought the $800 credit for my S21 would even out the price tag of $749 + Tax. Not sure how they charged me, but I did not get charged tax for the full price. So I upgraded to S22 and got $34 or something back on a BB gift card. Great deal.
