I have traded in 3 phones affiliated with T-Mobile so far with Best Buy/Samsung promotions within the last 4 months, and no staff ever gave me those rationales. Obviously, you can tell who my carrier is...And I look forward to trading in more phones in the future if Best Buy and Samsung continue to have collaborated promotions this good!
Financially speaking, not a lot of carriers and phone manufacturers give ridiculously tempting high trade-in values for phones that are 8+ months old. As a result, I believe it is personally attractive to me if I don't skip phone generations and upgrade to the next one as long as out-of-pocket is less than $200 to upgrade to the next equivalent or better model. Now, only if this trade-in model could be applied to exotic or high-performance cars...
I'm curious how phone deals from Apple and Samsung, specifically, in relation to big sellers like Amazon/Best Buy or major carriers would fluctuate if we faced an economic recession. Would consumers refrain from buying/upgrading thereby pressure them to reduce phone prices and even push out more attractive promotions or even better bundles?
