RP-600M is Passive and will need amplifier while the speaker in this thread is Powered and ready to go, so not a comparison use wise

Amazon has 5% cashback with the Prime card. Woot has 1-3% for most cards. That makes it an even smaller difference. However, Woot often has 1-2% cashback online, if you don't mind the wait.

If you're okay with $100 more the RP-600M bookshelfs are only $299 at Adorama as well. These are widely loved and a big step up from the 15s.

He's not wrong in that passive vs powered speakers are completely different offerings. Amp or Receiver, you still need a separate device to run passive speakers whereas powered speakers are generally stand alone.

Powered speakers are perfect if you have a (now discontinued) Chromecast Audio device or an Alexa with audio output. You can send music directly to the powered speakers.
