Alkalinity is different in the world of pools and bodies of water (where its measured in PPM of CaCO3) vs in general chemistry (which is just how basic a substance is) . Alkalinity in pool-land is the waters ability to STAY basic...


Dumpling a ton of CaCO3 won't raise pH much (since it maxes out at 8) but guarda against acids which try to swing it very low.

No, borax is sodium tetraborate. Washing soda is sodium carbonate.

Just FYI - Borax will raise PH without affecting Alkalinity. Sodium Carbonate (Washing Soda) will raise both PH and Alkalinity.

This is great for your pool to raise the ph if needed.. much cheaper than the pool label ph up.. same stuff

I use this in the process of tie dyeing and this is much cheaper than what I usually pay at Walmart. Good deal.

This stuff works great on coffee pots. Pot was completely black prior to soaking overnight with 1/2 cup of the soda.

Citric acid works better.


Add 1 full cup of citric acid to the washing machine and run a warm-hot temperature full cycle.
Citric acid is the main ingredient in clothes washing and dish washing machines cleaners.

I do this once a year and have no smells and keeps the machine clean.
