Mario Kart 8 technically came out in 2014 but it ended up being the number 1 sold Switch game at $60. Nintendo really has no incentive to lower the price, their games still sell like crazy.

This is how Nintendo works and people still pay full price. I have a switch and only a few games for it. I'm just going to wait for them to make their next console. At that point they'll just start porting over all the old games again like Mario Kart 8 and Zelda, charging $60 a pop to play on the new system. Then on the switch the prices will drop to something reasonable. It's ridiculous that they still get away with this yet Playstation and Xbox games ,especially their exclusives, drop in price. What's sad is people know Nintendo does this and still buys the games at these prices. So Nintendo thinks "why should I lower the prices if these schmucks still pay full price for almost 10 year old games?". The only pro about paying full price for these games is that you can sell them a couple of years later for like 95% of the new price you bought them for.
I highly doubt many switch games will be ported over to Nintendo's next console. The only reason that they were in this generation was that the wii u sold poorly and not many people experienced the games.

Well Elden Ring just scored higher than Ocarina of Time as the #1 ranked game of all-time so. . .

We regret ever buying a Switch TBH. Nintendo will always have a place in my timeline, but they're well past expiration for me. Our last Nintendo console for sure.

On the one hand I completely understand your methodology in getting the most cost effectiveness from a game system + games by simply waiting it out once a new console gets released. The downside to that imo is not being able to leverage the existing online community in playing some of those games (which could be crucial in leveling up. Think Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 as an example).

Our Switch gets more play than the rest of the consoles combined, and Mario Kart 8 is probably my favorite game on it. I already liked it on the Wii U and the Switch version is better (you can carry two items and battle mode doesn't suck). My only regret about purchasing it (for more than this price) is that since I bought the physical game I have to actually put in the cartridge to play :-)

I am a big fan of Mario golf. Pretty much only play the standard style though. Original release it was a little light on courses but added like 5-6 more post release

You are able to play the standard way in Rush? I thought you always have to play it where you run between strokes so I quit playing it as I wanted a relaxing golf game (like the N64 and Game Cube ones). I bought Golf Story and loved it.

It would be easy to say they only make games for kids now, but realistically I remember when Nintendo games were HARD. They love to blame oldschool gamers like me that we just got old or changed, but the reality is they only appeal to the lowest common denominator now: casual gamers. It shows in how accessible games are to a large audience and why I no longer feel challenged playing them.

Sure, the bar has absolutely been raised by games like Elden Ring, but it shows there's still a strong demand for that OG Nintendo feeling of beating a hard game. Nintendo has no excuse.

I see. Thanks for the explanation. I'm old school too and just picked up our first switch for my 5 year old and find myself playing old NES/SNES/Genesis games on it. Really enjoying it. The screen is so nice too.

Well that's simply not true so. . .

Re: Switch. If you dig you'll find it's one of the best consoles ever created. The reason? Gameplay over graphics. Apparently that's a thing too.

Uh what does that have to do with anything?

It's simple. If a company can put out a similar product then people will buy that instead. How many good kart racers are there for example? Many companies have tried and failed.

As for elden ring, it plays way differently from botw. Both may be open world action adventure games but that's really it. Plus you know, elden ring isn't on the switch.

Most OG gamers remember OG Nintendo games being fun. Sure some were harder than others but they were more fun than anything else. Nothing wrong with prioritizing fun when it comes to video games. Some might even say it's smart. Ask Nintendo's accounting department.
