I asked a more experienced camper what's the difference between this and a Coleman. It's not just the BTU's, take a look at the burner. The Camp Chef has a ring around it that direct the flames up and protects it from the wind. If you look at the Coleman the burner is a basic design where you'll be losing a lot of heat.

I don't plan on using the 1lb tank, buying an adapter hose for 5 or 20lb tank depending on how long my trip is.

I've had this stove for years, its wonderful. My one tip is start the burners much lower than you would on your home stove, this thing can rip.

The Coleman's are on clear out at sams for 30 right now about 10k per burner.

this stove seems nicer but even the 10k burners boil pretty fast unless you have a 16qt pot.
also
This will frost a small propane tank really fast.

40k btu out of a 1lb is absurd.
Yeah, isn't 20k btu more than most residential stoves? Got one the Colman Triton+ clearance ones from Sams. Seems like a deal for $30.

Can you connect a bigger propane tank to this?
Yes. I have my Weber grill's propane tank connected to this. It does require a $10 connector I got at Walmart to work though.

This is spot on. The cup around the burners in the Camp Chef is a huge benefit over the Coleman design both in terms of heat distribution and wind protection. The flame on a Coleman stove can flicker during even a gentle breeze.

Can anyone recommend a good brand hose 1lb to 5+ lbs adaptor connector?

Only 3% of reviews are 1-star reviews. 94% are 4 or 5 star. Compare to (for example) a Google Pixel phone which gets 8% 1-star reviews. Pick a product you rate highly and see how many 1-star reviews it has!

i.e. only getting 3% 1-star reviews means it is very, very good!

Had this for many years. Besides being able to reach high heat, you can simmer at low settings unlike cheaper stoves.

Chatted with an Amazon rep who didn't want to refund the $10 difference and that's a first for me with an immediate price drop of an item I just ordered. Not sure why they would want to pay the $15 free return cost instead of giving me the credit, but I guess it doesn't matter since I'll get the better price anyway after ordering another one.

I would buy again except I am upgrading to a built in stove top. Have used and abused mine for years. The clips that hold the lid shut gets stretched out and the plastic right control knob is likely to break eventually. I was not able to find a fast replacement for the knob. Otherwise, its flawless.
Perhaps you could get a knob 3D-printed, if that area doesn't get too hot that it would melt the 3D-printed knob.

Back in stock, but how does it compare to the $30 Coleman triton+ at Sams?
Wait what? Where.

The thread was posted when it was $50, but it's down to $30 at many stores now. Normally $80, I think.
