After weeks of research and deal seeking on a low-priced 65" TV, I ended up buying this. Unique set of pros and cons depending on your requirements.

Pros:
- Sony X1 Processing is way better than other cheap TVs which makes a huge difference for some content. Excellent upscaling for cable, YouTube etc., good motion interp, etc.
- Latest Sony software implementation with Google TV (fewer glitches and bugs usually than other brands) with updates expected for years to come
- Sony build quality (most reliable brand per Consumer Reports, and fewer unit-level QC issues)
- Much wider viewing angles than almost any non-OLED TV due to IPS panel
- Next gen ATSC tuner built in
- Excellent colors compared to most cheap TVs
- Includes 3 year warranty extended to 5 if using Costco Citi card

Cons:
- Poor contrast ratio (bad TV for dark rooms)
- Poor-ish HDR
- Poor-ish max brightness
- 60hz refresh rate

If you want an IPS panel like this (wide viewing angles, decent color, inexpensive), then just get the 65" Hisense A65H (A6H) which just went on sale for $399.99 at Costco right now. The 55" is also on sale for $269.99.

Same warranty length and virtually the same performance. The SONY might be a tad brighter, but it's double the price and the scores in all categories on rtings are almost identical between these TV's.

The lowest acceptable Sony model is X90K, anything else just go with other brands.
dangit 60hz refresh rate :/ Otherwise I would have jumped on it!

IPS is bad for almost every room. Viewing angle doesn't matter if it looks like ass from every angle.

I agree. Bright grey "blacks" from every angle is a hard pass.

If you're worried about burn in, get a full array Neo QLED or. Sony full array (ex Sony X90J & co). You can also get an extended warranty with OLED for a piece of mind. OLED technology has come a long way to have safeguards against burn in. All tvs are prone to malfunction at some point or another.

In terms of image quality and gaming features, imho OLED is on another level especially in a dark room setup.

As for smart features, it's almost impossible to find a high end tv that lacks them.

"IF" you can afford it get the Samsung Q90, it is the best non-OLED that you can get...
The Sony brand is not what it used to be.... The Sony Tax is not worth it.
Thanks guys, I was looking at Amazon and TVs are a fragmented mess and im in IT. I have some TCL 55 inch from years ago, my PS5 turns on the "HDR" but I am sure it's old. Would like a Samsung OLED/QLED with HDMI 2.1 and 120hz and any other features I need so my TV isnt obsolete in 2 years. I do not care about streaming or smart features.

Double post from some kind of forum error. Not sure how to delete.

You can't delete a post. It's a bit confusing because they don't tell you that in the app or on the site. Most people erase what they wrote and just type "delete" in the post.

The interface movement on the SONY is smoother. The Hisense is average according to RTINGS. But again, it's half the price and you can just plug a stick of your choice in the back if you feel it's that bad. I guess it depends on your priorities. I just think for $800 you would get more value if you spent it elsewhere. For example, the QN90A will probably drop to $1000 soon and that will be well worth the extra $200 spent.

I would not buy an LED TV (actually an LCD with LED backlighting) that doesn't have some kind of "local dimming." Otherwise dark shows, especially streaming, will be muddy and gray. If all you watch is cable TV, sports, news, etc, you might not care. But if watch something like Game of Thrones or Stranger Things through streaming, you will be really bothered by the muddy contrast.

My eyes seem to prefer IPS panels over BUDGET VA panels so I looked at this model when I was shopping for a 65" budget TV. I ended up finding a heck of a deal on an LG and have been totally satisfied with it. Most budget VA panels look hazy to my eyes when compared side-by-side to IPS displays. The better blacks and contrast of a budget VA panel didn't impress me when I compared the LG to a Samsung Q60A side-by-side for 4 days.

I picked up a 65" LG UP7000 ($310.00) and a Samsung Q60A ($335.00) during the Target clearance about 3 months ago. I ended up keeping the LG.
