HBO Max doing subscription sales knowing that they have a ton of pending cancellations with their upcoming merger & terrible decisions regarding removal of content
and it looks like HBO Max has discounted subscription for the 1 year plans right now: $105 without ads or $70 with ads. Combined with this capital one cash back, it'd be $77 without ads or $60 with ads. That seems pretty good.
Too bad HBO Max is deleting a bunch of their originals and lowering the amount of content available, guess that's why there's a lot of sales on subscriptions now.

Like a lot of us, I got in on the discounted $109 12-month ad-free deal a year ago, so it's up for renewal in a few weeks. For me, cutover day is Sep 19th, and I have a CapOne cars with the offer.
I'm wondering if I can double-dip here? Do the 1 month $15 ad-free money-maker for 30 days, cancel on Oct 19, then sign-up for the $70 annual ad-based tier to get the additional discount? Would end up with 13 months of service for a net outlay of ($15+$70)-($22+$10) = $53, or ~$4/mo.
The CapOne offer T&C makes no mention of one rebate per account. The only limiting wording I see is in the banner text, where it says "Up to $27 back". I would assume no double-dip, and since it takes 3 statements for the credit(s) to show up it's not testable, but still it seems like it might work.
Did the one month. It'll give me an opportunity to test it out and then decide if I want to do the year sub with the AMEX offer and extra cashback from site that will not be named, while also getting $7 from this deal. Win-win.
People complaining about removing original content have to google what content is being removed then google each content so they can voice their opinion here haha
But this is a sweet deal with the upcoming game of thrones series

^ this. People have been complaining a lot, but tbh for now hbomax still is the one I watch most between netflix, disney+, and hulu. Things unfortunately will get removed here and there since the golden age where almost all comtent being hosted in a single streaming platform seems to be gone.
On an another note, I wonder if 1 year discount for hbomax is more related to timing than anything, since like so many others I subscribed to their discounted yearly plan about the same time as mine too is about to expire.
Thanks to the CEO David Zaslav, all of your favorite content will likely get removed from the app. He was formerly CEO of Discovery before the buyout, and is the reason for the new Batgirl movie getting axed. Just today it's been revealed that TV shows like Infinity Train have been removed from the app, a show that was made by HBO Max. He's been quoted saying, "Scripted Has Had Its Moment, This Is Our Time". His actions are unprecedented; Cancelling a film that's already finished, removing TV Shows that were made in-house, what's next? Screw reality television, and screw David Zaslav.
This seems odd. What benefit does removing content serve?

Maybe I'm overthinking this, but as this is SlickDeals, working on a deal to make is "Slicker" is in-bounds, yeah?
If I try the double-dip and succeed, I'll pay $53 for 13 months, or $4.08/mo. If I try and fail, I'll miss out on the $10 rebate for the $70 ad-based annual tier, so I pay $63 and 13 months, or $4.85/mo.
If I don't try the double-dip, I pay $60 for 12 months, or $5.00/mo.
So the most expensive option is to NOT try the double-dip. Seems like there's no reason not to... and as a bonus, both double-dip options give me an extra month of service, also synching my expiration date with everybody else who signs up in October 2022, giving HBO incentive to offer a deal in October 2023 for retention purposes.
So.... when my current deal expires on 9/19, I'll be giving the double-dip a shot. If your sub expires in the next month, you may want to do this too.
When does the deal expired? My yearly subscription ends Sept 27th
The HBO side of the deal - the reduced annual sub prices - are good thru October 30th. The CapOne rebate side of the deal - dunno. No expiration date is listed and the T&C page is not deal-specific.
