I have the half off deal, and I am honestly having a hard time justifying that. I haven't watched anything on HBO/MAX for a couple of months.

Is for me. Stack it with $16 CB and you're looking at just over $5/month.

My HBO subscription also cancels on 9/17. However, when cancelling online it is still active until 9/17. This means I can not get in on the Amex deal since that ends 9/15. Instead, on 9/15, I will sign up under my wife's name.

Someone upstream asked if the ads are tolerable/invasive and/or if they interrupt within a movie. The ads themselves are for HBO/HBO Max content.

I've been on the ads plan for 8 months and the ads appear (to me) before the start of the movie/episode programming. Preroll, some may call it. I have not experienced an ad-insertion during a movie or episodic programming.

And I seem to recall I've never experienced a pre roll ad before each episode of Last Week Tonight or Young Justice so I don't know if that applies to all HBO Max specific content or if I've just been lucky. I double checked to ensure I was paying for the monthly ad plan.

Dunno if this qualifies as a YMMV.

EDIT: I should add I don't miss the ability to download content on their iOS app or stream in 4K/HDR on my Roku or Apple TV so the ad plan is working well for me. I just have lousy eyesight.

i bought this same deal last year and like most others are saying, ran out of stuff to watch after a few weeks (I don't watch much either, usually a couple hours a week). you're better off paying full price for a month

Very useful, thank you. This convinces me that ad version is the better deal.

Thanks to the CEO David Zaslav, all of your favorite content will likely get removed from the app. He was formerly CEO of Discovery before the buyout, and is the reason for the new Batgirl movie getting axed. Just today it's been revealed that TV shows like Infinity Train have been removed from the app, a show that was made by HBO Max. He's been quoted saying, "Scripted Has Had Its Moment, This Is Our Time". His actions are unprecedented; Cancelling a film that's already finished, removing TV Shows that were made in-house, what's next? Screw reality television, and screw David Zaslav.

Yet GOT is arguably the best show ever. Says a lot even with a disappointing last season
Yeah, arguably. As in: if you argue that GoT is the best show ever, you're wrong.

also want to know how much of a joke HBO Max is? Their 4k and/or Dolby Vision and/or Atmos content is something around 20 movies long. But ohhhhHhhHHhH they just added Game of Thrones! They put out a huge press release for lol.. Netflix was filled with UHD content like 5 years ago or more..

So, the with ads deal does not offer 4k streaming?

Even on the HBO website, 4k streaming is only mentioned in the no ads package.
Yea better watch out might miss out on those 20 4k UHD titles they have.
