An air fryer is just a toaster oven with a fan. That's literally the whole thing. Like the entire thing. Just a heating element and a fan

No, its the rate of heat trasfer. I.e. the level (power) of the forced convection. Air frying requires high power forced convection relative to the volume being heated - i.e. high rate of heat transfer. You can have a large air fryer if the heating fan is appeopriately large to allow a high enough level of convection and therefore heat transfer.

Sure you can call a traditional convection oven an air fryer. Its just a very under powered air fryer which produces underwhelming results when used as an air fryer. Easier then to accept that its not an air fryer. Or u can accept it as a really crappy air fryer.

People fall for the marketing. Airfryers are not new things I had one way back in 2001.

Was it the one that's basically a large clear glass pot and the lid was the heating element and fan?? 😆

Still have mine in the basement somewhere!
Those are often called turbo ovens… Again marketing… That's what I use and love it. I can "air fry" a whole turkey in it and have the past few thanksgivings

I have the turbo ovens, toaster ovens with a fan, and my main oven is convection. I thought they were the same. I picked up one of those "air fryers" with a basket and realized they are not the same. The smaller air fryer is more convenient, it heats up much quicker, and cooks crispier faster. It's great for small batches like one or two servings of fries, nuggets, or cheese sticks. The turbo oven kind of does the same thing if the food is raised very close to the top, but it's more klutzy to setup and the huge ring just makes it less convenient. However, cooking a whole bird just won't work in the air fryer. It has a lot to do with the smaller volume. I don't know about this particular Item as it doesn't have the smaller volume. If there's one at my Wally's , for sure I'll try it out.

It's only good if it's stainless steel. The other coating has forever chemicals. No bueno
This oven is stainless inside. The alternative is enamel. Enamel has no "Forever chemicals". Enamel is a dyed glass. First the dye does not have dangerous chemicals, secondly, anything locked into glass will never be released, even if you break it.

While I cannot vouch for this specific model, and whether or not it is actually a glorified convection oven or something else, I can say the Chefman XL 20L I bought from Amazon is amazing. I use that thing sometimes every meal of the day!

I've owned a Vortex XL and while it might have cooked faster, it was extremely limited in functionality for how large it was. Plus no viewing window and the cleaning of the drawer was tedious.

If my current Chefman was on the fritz I would consider this one as a replacement... Not focusing on the marketing and instead on the functionality, there are several benefits to be had. Try it out if you haven't had one and can fit this on your counter.

Rate of heat transfer is what separates the catagories here. Otherwise my juicy lips blowing on a slab of meat in a tubaware is also an air fryer.
Uhm....... Excuse me!?! That sounds like a BJ.

I have a turbo oven and jumped on the air fryer bandwagon. I did a few blind taste test with my family and no one could tell the difference. I returned the air fryer...don't need 2 things that do the same thing especially when the other is tiny.

My fan on the turbo oven is making noises now, not spinning as fast and likely on the last leg so might get this...

Bought this last year when it was posted here for the same price.
This thing is used almost daily a few times a day, as well as making fried fish.
We have also bought a rotating basket and used it for veggies and fries.
Also done a few chickens with this and roasted turkey breast on the rotisserie.

Wife loves this thing.

This is 1700 watts and may or may not be a problem in some kitchens.
I had to ditch a 1800 watt air frier because it kept tripping the breaker. A lot of kitchen receptacles are rated at 15a and 1700 to 1800w is pushing it.

It seems like a lot of people here think combination air fryer/ toaster ovens can't exist. I've had a combo unit for almost 3 years now and compared to previous toaster ovens and a standalone air fryer I've owned, it 100% does both perfectly fine.

It has a large fan in the top above the top heating element. When set to "air fry" the fan spins up at a very high rate and the bottom heating element turns off. When set to "convection" both heating elements are on and the fan spins at a much slower rate. The air fry setting forces a large volume of super heated air directly onto the food, whereas the convection setting mostly works to even out the temperature everywhere in the toaster oven. It's essentially an air fryer in the form of a toaster oven since most convection only toaster ovens have a small fan on the side to circulate air and have no ability to direct heated air at food.

When I was shopping for a combo unit, all the toaster ovens I looked at that specifically said "air fryer" and "convection" where built in the same way.

My experience is not related to this actual product, but something that someone might want to consider if they have limited counter space.

My wife "upgraded" our small oven to something similar like this with the fancy french doors. It's got to be one of the most annoying gadgets to use because not only does the area in front of the door have to be clear for you to open the oven, but on ours the french doors will NOT stay open on its own unless the doors are wide open at 180 degrees. You can pull out the tray to prop the doors open but that requires using something to pull the hot tray unless you want to burn yourself. I often have no need to pull that out just for a couple slices of toast.

I personally just don't see any benefits of having french doors on a small oven. It's more hassle than it's worth in my opinion.

Funny I had to do something similar for my fraternity initiation. I was blindfolded and told whatever was put near or in my mouth I must accept. I don't know what kind of meat it was but the longer it was in my mouth the tougher it got until I hit the juicy part and it softened up.
