Surge protectors are consumable items. Even if the receptacles still work after 15 years, the surge protection is probably gone. Each time the protection component absorbs a small spike in your power line it reduces it's capacity until it's deleted. Unfortunately they don't put remaining capacity gauges on those things
I bought a bunch of these from Costco and I've already thrown out 3; they don't last that long (maybe 2 years)? I'm fine with what I paid I guess but it was a bit weird to me as all of my other ones are getting to around 15+ years and going strong. Just a fair warning on the longevity of these.

Note that you can always return them to costco if they die but I was lazy.

Mine from 5 years ago (granted, they weren't USB C) are still going strong. Maybe your area is more prone to irregular electrical outages/spikes?

Yeah, I need to read up on this. Back of my mind I was okay with swapping them out periodically. Interesting that I had so many die from this one brand though.

Could be; I've thought of that. My others ones are still working but that could mean either way (like they're not very protective).

If the outlets are still working, how do you know if they are still providing protection? Is there a way to test them?

For these ones, there's a light indicating whether it's grounded and also another light indicating it's protected.

Dummy proof for dummy. laugh out loud

I think there is a tank on the powerline in every neighborhood to make sure the power is well regulated

Clamping voltage is a spec that I don't see mentioned yet

Clamping voltage AKA voltage protection rating or VPR is 600V (L-N L-G N-G) for all three units.

https://dl4jz3rbrsfum.cloudfront....058SSW.pdf

Lower is better. A clamping voltage of 330V is considered the best protection, though in recent years, there aren't many affordable surge protectors meeting that standard anymore. I'm okay with 500V or lower. Will pass on these.

Yeah just googled this is 600v

Sure it can absorb a lotta joules which all even the cheapest can. But when it waits until 600v to do so COME ON MAN

Clamping voltage indicates the voltage level at which the surge protector will attenuate the surge. A lower clamping voltage is preferred, and the best surge protectors do not exceed 400 volts.
