Honest question, how does this full synthetic compare to Mobil 1, Castrol edge, shell rotella, penz ultra platinum, etc...

Anyone find a date of manufacture on this oil? Most oil companies have a self life, five to three years, depends on companies

Could dinosaurs become oil under the right conditions? My guess would be probably - but the deposits that oil is retrieved from predate dinosaurs and exist in relatively unique sets of conditions so it's unlikely that dinosaurs, even if present in the same timeframe as the formation of oil, would have contributed to it.

One of the sales guys I work with is a dinosaur, I'll ask him and let y'all know.

Tbf, it's more a testament to the bulletproofness of GMs 6.0l. They are very forgiving on neglect and lack of maintenance. A lesser engine would not fare the same.

Remains to be seen. PQIA posted a virgin analysis on it though and it is API SP/GF6/Dexos so it has to be somewhat decent.

Good point. I never beat on the car and that treatment is paying off.

That motor is stout and one of GM's best motors.... Ever.

There are plenty of other examples by Toyota 4.7l V8 and 3.0 v6 and 5.7l v8 that im sure see 10-20k interval oil changes and go will over 300k....

it really is the motor design here...

Agreed. Outside of the active fuel management/displacement on demand/collapsed lifter problems on the newer GM V8s, they're pretty bulletproof over the long haul. It's videos like the one linked below that make me not want to risk long oil change intervals though...

Thats interesting. 6L fanatics always push to disable and remove the AFM. Mine is bone stock. Never a hiccup. I can only imagine the money AFM has saved me over 230k miles. Provides about 6% improvement which adds up over time.

With fuel prices being what they are, every little bit helps. My next door neighbor just pulled the heads on his stock '08 5.3 Sierra and did the AFM delete at 120K miles, plus a mild cam, custom tune, new lifters, valve springs, and valve stem seals etc. A broken valve spring prompted the work, which I was surprised to see on an engine of that mileage.

Some GM owners run a little ATF in their engine oil (1/2 quart or so as a high detergent additive) to keep their lifter internals varnish free and prevent the lifter sticking problem, but I can't comment on the safety or effectiveness of that method.

YUUPPP!!!!

My buddys 11 sierra 1500 180K-Miles had a lifter go out and it started burning oil like a freight train between oil changes... AFM = USELESS.... Especially in a truck... It will be in v8 mode 99% of the time with any load or weight on it.

Where did your buddy get his cam and parts?

Even in the HD 2500/3500 trucks, the 6.0l gets worked hard and still one of the most bulletproof engines. Cool
