Our shop uses these type of ecoboxes. We're pretty heavy handed with them and they've never leaked. Some of them stay opened on the shelf for up to a year without issue.
I had not heard of this brand, so I looked at the Petroleum Quality Institute of America site. The additive packages look good for this oil:

Decent amounts of moly, boron and zinc.
Is motor oil legal in CA?

Does anyone know if the last 3 are actually synthetic blend? The description says "high mileage synthetic blend" , but the website states full on conventional which is what I need for my older vehicles. Can anyone confirm?

It's conventional and not a synthetic blend from OP links. 5w-20 and 5w-30 blend out of stock but 10w-30 synthetic blend is still available.

The description says conventional, but the picture of the product shows "synthetic blend".

Notice he said "his mechanic" so maybe he has a good relationship where they allow him to bring his fluids - this is especially common for smaller shops and if you are bringing in a german car.
It is common around here for people to take their own wine to a restaurant and pay a corkage fee (labor), or bring their own birthday cake and have it served to them with the restaurants plates, forks, etc. Frankly even the Chevy dealer would let me bring my own oil and filter.

That's what I thought but the description on the SlickDeals and on the photo on the grainger show it as synthetic blend. Its confusing.

That's what confused me also. Is it a typo on their website? Because the photo clearly shows synthetic blend and well I'm only putting conventional oil in my older cars. It's a debacle.

somebody correct me if I am wrong, but ATF is a "friction" fluid though it is a lubricant sometimes used in transfer cases, power steering, etc.. it often contains friction modifiers for automatic transmission clutch plates. However people used ATF as an engine oil additive back in the days because it has a ton of detergents that help clean or keep an engine clean. Some people even mix ATF with acetone as a PBBlaster substitute. But yes, nowadays there are better products to use as an engine oil additive.

ATF in oil will not clean or do anything good. Its a thin oil product with almost no detergents in it.

Now there use to be whale oil in much older ATFs and that was acidic and helped break up dirty oil. But that was back in the day and it was cleaning up oils that were much less robust as current oils.

Newer SN/SN+/SP rated oils should never need a flush or extra additives if they are changed on time and not allowed to get low.

So skip ATF and other wives tails and just top your oil off as needed and change on time and you will be good.

Newer oil specs are so demanding its almost impossible to make a oil that meets the newest SP oil spec and not have some synthetic additives/base stock in it.

I ordered from GoVets early Monday morning. Still no shipment notification as of Friday morning. At this point, i'll be surprised if they don't cancel my order.

Is Govets free shipping? Maybe they figured out that free shipping will kill them. I remember this happening on an Autozone deal a few years back when they had those closeout 5gal jugs for like 5 bucks and they messed up and listed it as free shipping too....whoops.....

Yes, GoVets ships free. I went that route because there are no Grainger locations near me.

KGorilla, I agree. What really goes into your car when you go to the dealer or large shop? As a petroleum tanker truck delivery driver I fill up the bulk tanks at some major dealerships and large service oil change places. I really know what is in the "bulk tank". The delivery tickets that the manager signs really show what is in the tanks. The bulk tanks are in a room, outside in a restricted area or out back in a fenced area. I am required to place a sticker on the tank stating what the brand, precautions and specs are for the oil. Many times I am asked by the manager to make the label less than obvious. The cars/trucks are serviced using a nozzle/gun inside the shop with piping from the pump located on/near the bulk tanks. That is not to say that you are not getting what you paid for but to say that the brand may not be one that normally pops up when you talk major brands of motor oil. That being said, I have a somewhat different opinion about brands, testing, specs and markers found in motor/hydraulic oil. The owner of my oil company never allowed deception or mislabeling of products. I have even refused to make a delivery when a "customer' instructed me to place oil into a tank that did not have the proper label.

On a personal note. I have a 0w20 car and when it was new the dealer offered free oil changes. After the oil change I noted on the receipt that the oil weight was not listed as synthetic. I spoke with the service manager and he flat out refused to tell me what weight oil was put into the car and also refused to let me talk to the mechanic that changed the oil. I pulled a sample and kept it till the next oil change, just in case. I never returned to the dealer for ANY future service on my Toyota.

What do you guys think ??? I do 4000-5000 OCI's. Go with blend or full synthetic >>
