Divide your image width by height.
If you get a number higher than 0.8, that means you need to multiply your height by 0.8 and that's the largest your width can be.
If you get a number lower than 0.8, multiply your width by 1.25 and that's the largest your height can be.
If you get a number equal to 0.8, then your image has the right width to height ratio to print this.
Use an image cropper or resizeimage dot net or Photoshop or any free Photoshop alternative like Paint Dot Net.
For other picture sizes 0.8 can be replaced by width/height and 1.25 can be replaced by height/width.

Also note that any image that can fit a normal 8" x 10" photo can also fit for this canvas.
