I was going to post this but I figured because it's not a Gen 4 drive for free people would crap all over it.
it is not just that.
i actually have this drive. and i think it is fine for most people (as indicated in amazon review).
But if you are the one of the few that moves sizeable amount of data, the sustained write performance is worse than HDD once the SLC cache is full. in my case, it is about 100Mbps moving single large size file (like virtual machine hdd).
this is normal for low end devices, but with the TLC team group drive (which i also happen to have, and is currently priced at 67 dollars, but was 65 dollar during sales), the sustained write performance is 150 Mbps. so about 50% more.
for short bursts, the SN350 does perform very well at the rated speed, but I swapped out the drive with the team group because 1. short burst doesn't matter much for me, 2400 Mbps and 3000 Mbps moving a 10G file is only about 1 second different. but when i move 300G file, the difference is about 10~20 minutes. and 2nd.. the rated Write cycle is only 80TBW, lowest of any type of drives that i have, (i even have some 64G SSD), like no joke, after i write and read all blocks to verify the disk (like i do to all disks), i am already about 3T written, or about 3% of the total rated TBW is gone.

Yeah, all of that is terrible for power users, I agree. I am reading conflicting information as the Newegg listing states 100 TBW, but in a Toms hardware post about it they stated 80 TBW as well. Either way, for the average college student or parent's laptop that just needs more space, this would be a perfectly fine and reliable storage option.

can get better TBW for the same price, this is probably not a good deal
