I beg to differ. I've saved a ton of money buying through REI; just have to be keen on what to buy and when to buy. Not to mention that their ongoing gear garage can have extremely good deals as well. To be a Slickdealer is to strike when the iron is hot, and if you blanket statement REI not having good prices: you're not looking hard enough and you're missing out. ✌️

REI is a good store for getting what you pay for. Can't say I've shopped for towels, but when I've spent time and money to get into the backcountry, the last thing I want is my budget stove or tent breaking down.

REI used to be better, back when they had their lifetime warranty, but it's still a good place when something is clearanced or with these coupons.

REI is always higher priced but for members you get back a dividend on full price items. Plus their pretty much no questions asked return policy even for well worn shoes is unmatched and worth the higher prices

Only amazing prices I see are on the lawn chairs and camp low chair.

I own the Quarter Dome SL 2 tent and it's an amazing tent at the price per weight.

Ended up just buying some silks and pants for my upcoming backpack next month. Also bought my daughter the 24" REV bike -- hope it doesn't suck.

Damn, I paid like $75 for the same sleeping bag the last time it was on sale (which is quite often). That is a steal at $32. Not sure I can price match this and drive to the nearest store for a return will cost me gas $$.
Yeah, that's the way it goes! I've seen this sleeping bag featured as top-ranked in its category for the last couple of years. I'm guessing it's a much better product than the camp chairs people seem to be talking about more. Both are on the front page now and I think the single Siesta sold out, the double was still in stock last time I checked. This is my first sleeping bag order from REI but I really wasn't impressed by their chairs (screws came loose/stripped pretty early on nowhere near the weight limit).

Does the 20% coupon apply for Brook's Running shoes as well? I am thinking of getting a membership since its only $30 for lifetime but I mostly need it for Brook's Running products.

Idk why this is downvoted.. I always thought REI was insanely overpriced. Just checked out the deals... first item is a personal towel for just under $50... I can get many towels for $50... elsewhere. 🤦🤷
Insanely overpriced? Most of the things they sell have an MSRP that's the same at many stores. How can a store survive by insanely overpricing things? Explain.

Nice, but way too expensive, I'm looking at the 1up USA mount.
Correction. Way too expensive for you.

I wouldn't use current REI brand stuff for serious activities like backpacking or cold weather camping any more. They've been pretty open about going the direction of "outdoors lifestyle" rather than a real outdoors store over the past few years. I say this owning a several older REI-branded items with quite a few miles on them.

Noted. You can clearly see that in the clothing. However, I would still argue their tents and packs are good value when on sale. They're average equipment, but you and I both know the other brands cost quite a bit more. Any serious and regular packer wouldn't use REI brand. REI brand only makes one single wall tent, and none use Dyneema. When I bring this up -- were they ever a serious outfitter?

The house brand used to be respected enough to be used in situations where equipment failure would cause serious problems.
Now it's probably the same level as some of the midrange Amazon Chinese offerings -- not bad for the price. Good for short and moderate weather backpacking.

They also stripped the stores of just so much backpacking gear. There was a period where there were no water bladders or backpacking kitchen/cookware at my local store. I don't blame them -- it makes sense to chase the wallets of a customer base that is becoming less outdoorsy.

Not sure about this particular coupon, but I used a previous coupon on my Brooks Adrenaline 22 on, I believe, their last sale.

This sale I stocked up on some running socks, and got two of their Camp X Chair.

Isn't it usually the case that there's a coupon for 20% off one regularly priced item, and also a separate 20% off coupon for an item from the Outlet department?

This time it seems like there's only the Outlet coupon.

One thing that the 20% off regular price coupon is good for, is on items that aren't normally discounted from other vendors, or on Amazon.

For example, a couple of years ago, I used my coupon on a Benchmade Anonimous knife, which is fairly pricey. The total savings was north of $50. I had never seen that item dip below the retail price before, so it turned out to be a good deal.

But this time there's no coupon applicable towards a regularly priced item. I hope this isn't the way they do it going forward.

The 20% off regular priced item coupon usually only happens in May for their anniversary sale.

You are correct,

However REI has the best warranty in the world for camping gear for heavy users. I had a 10-year-old Northface Rock 22 tent that I paid 250.00 plus for. I used it about 40 nights a year so say 400 uses.
It started to separate at a seam. I took it to the store and was just wanting to get it repaired. I walked out with a brand-new Homestead 2 tent. Basically todays version of the same tent.

So yes everything is retail and you buy it on sale at 20-25 percent off retail at certain times of the year plus your dividend of about 10%. If you are buying something that is used often and needs to be good quality and reliable REI has its place.

On certain things the throw away things are worth it on others like tents, Sleeping Bags etc they are not IMHO.

By the way Northface would have repaired the tent for the cost of shipping it to them and waiting till they could fix it.
