I beg to differ. I've saved a ton of money buying through REI; just have to be keen on what to buy and when to buy. Not to mention that their ongoing gear garage can have extremely good deals as well. To be a Slickdealer is to strike when the iron is hot, and if you blanket statement REI not having good prices: you're not looking hard enough and you're missing out. ✌️

REI is a good store for getting what you pay for. Can't say I've shopped for towels, but when I've spent time and money to get into the backcountry, the last thing I want is my budget stove or tent breaking down.

REI used to be better, back when they had their lifetime warranty, but it's still a good place when something is clearanced or with these coupons.

If, like me, you're looking for hiking shoes Merrell is also doing 30% on their sale items so I found some cheaper options there than at REI. I happened to google to make sure no where else was cheaper, and turns out there was.

So is there a way to join the co-op membership today without spending $50, and get the coupon tomorrow (or sometime soon) when I spend $50+? Because it sounds like you'd have to buy something today at normal price + sign up for membership in order to get a coupon in the near future that you could use over the sale... Hoping there's a way around it. This coupon thing was valid last June too... not sure how long it has been going for, or how often it pops up

It's "up" to 50% off on regular items. The coupon is only good for outlet items only which are not very exciting.

They cracked down a lot on returns in the past few years. Used to be an extremely liberal return policy of "Lifetime," but changed it to (I believe) only a year. Which is still decent considering the quality of what they sell. Downside is they can be real a$$holes regarding returns or exchanges of items that were purchased under the "Lifetime" warranty but in present day. I used to spend tons of money there on expensive items knowing they had my back. But I rarely shop there after dealing with them on a couple obviously defective items (like a $300 air mattress that had a failed valve) which they tried unilaterally changing the return contract upon after the sale. Sports Basement still offers a liberal return policy, and I shop a lot more with them now.
