I had an amazon managed 365 account and was able to unlink last month to extend through a new device purchase. The option exists under the my subscriptions page.

WARNING: Redemption of this code purchased from Amazon against an existing subscription managed by a Microsoft account (via redeem.microsoft.com) will extend the existing term, BUT will transfer management of the subscription to Amazon. You will no longer be able to see expiration information under your Microsoft account.
I am unsure how to safely return the subscription control back to Microsoft.
Edit: CONFIRMED with Microsoft CSR that the subscription cannot be returned to Microsoft before expiration and any keys obtained through other retailers or as gifts CANNOT be applied to this account.
Continuing to investigate - some Slickdealers had similar experiences with BestBuy and were able to return to MS in some way. However, an Amazon held subscription does appear to be locked in for the duration (as far as I can tell)
If you have a subscription several years in the future and you value your consumer freedom, STAY AWAY!

Don't do it! Amazon hijacks your M365 subscription! You're better off going through Microsoft so any account and billing management is done by, you know, the provider of the service themselves.
I made this same mistake years ago and had to go through Amazon to remove their control over my subscription before I was able to pay and extend my service without going through Amazon.

Better deal than the personal (single license) version currently. Just in time for renewal end of month. Hope there is no issue renewing the Personal version with this Family version!
P.S.: I have a few days left on my Personal version subscription through Amazon. If I click on the "Cancel Subscription" button, will it get cancelled right away or when it is supposed to be due in a few days? I plan to switch to the Family version after the Personal version expires but want to make sure I don't get charged for the Personal version automatically too!

And for the tax conscious, the purchase shows up on the receipt as a separate $50 gift card and a ~$43 software licensing purchase, so you're not able to claim the full $93+ purchase.
I'm tempted because my prime day gift card credit expires in a couple days, and this would work for that, but I'm still not sure it's worth getting locked into Amazon.
Yeah Amazon offered a $59.99 auto renewal rate a couple years ago and I thought that was a decent deal.
The gift card is good on this but I'm guessing it'll renew at the $90 rate.

Wrong! Mine is $59.99 family plan up to 6 people. I just checked. And it just renewed in June at that price.
Update: I was looking in the app when I saw this. When I look at subscriptions on the Amazon site in a browser there is a button to activate the second subscription. If I activate it will the expiration date of my original subscription be extended by a year?

Thanks. So I need to cancel the auto-renewal for the first subscription before I activate the new one?
I canceled my current subscription effective November 28th, but it's not letting me activate the new one because the old one is still active and being shared. I guess I'll just have to wait a few months until the first one expires, unless someone else has an idea of what to try.
Why is this so difficult? Amazon was already managing my subscription, seems like it should extend my old one automatically!
