Use a circular saw and adjust the blade down to board depth and use a demo blade.

Get a blade that is the correct length. If the blade sets 1.5 inch below the foot, get a blade that reaches the correct cut depth at max stroke. (1in)

Avoiding the board next to the rotted on would be easy with a circular saw then use a oscillating tool to get the small amount left over.

Best tool for this would be a track saw that can do a plunge cut, they're expensive and very single use item for DIY people.

If I were you and didnt want to go the circular saw route, figure out the blade depth needed for the jig saw, buy the correct blade, drill a hole into the rotted board, cut it with a jigsaw.

Typically you would use a circular saw for this, just set the depth you want.

Can you control depth of the cut with a jig saw? I need to remove some rotted sections of deck boards and don't want to cut into the joist or the board next to it with a circular saw.

Guess my other option is one of those oscillating multi tools.

I think you don't get the 10pc blades that way though.

If anyone gets one, just make sure you don't have extra slop in the blade guide like I did on my older one. It was so bad my cuts all had a slight bevel to them even though I wasn't pushing the saw any harder than I usually would. My current dewalt has no issues with this at all.

If you have play in the guide, try a new one but I have a feeling these have a slight design flaw.

Any idea if this would be able to trim some Trex decking to contour around some curves?

I have this--it's okay, but I wish I'd gone higher end. As another poster said, lots of slop in the blade angle. Also, it's damn heavy. I use a jigsaw so often, I want one easier to control.
