Use a circular saw and adjust the blade down to board depth and use a demo blade.

Get a blade that is the correct length. If the blade sets 1.5 inch below the foot, get a blade that reaches the correct cut depth at max stroke. (1in)

Avoiding the board next to the rotted on would be easy with a circular saw then use a oscillating tool to get the small amount left over.

Best tool for this would be a track saw that can do a plunge cut, they're expensive and very single use item for DIY people.

If I were you and didnt want to go the circular saw route, figure out the blade depth needed for the jig saw, buy the correct blade, drill a hole into the rotted board, cut it with a jigsaw.
Typically you would use a circular saw for this, just set the depth you want.
For $100 you also get 2 4.0Ah batteries and a charger.

Can you control depth of the cut with a jig saw? I need to remove some rotted sections of deck boards and don't want to cut into the joist or the board next to it with a circular saw.

Guess my other option is one of those oscillating multi tools.
A jig saw blade should reach the bottom of the material you are cutting when the stroke is fully retracted or it can be unsafe and jump when the tip hits material. Therefore it would not work to avoid cutting joists. A track saw will provide the same results as a circular saw where you either don't fully cut the deck board or you cut adjacent deck boards due to the circular blade. An oscillating multi tool will work, but could be tedious if doing many cuts. It also will be harder to make a perfectly straight cut. That said, it is probably your best option without removing the affected deck boards and using a circular saw or miter saw..

How are they able to sell their stuff so cheap compared to their competition? Is their stuff that bad to be that cheap? It must be they don't last right? The batteries die after a year or something right? At this price I'm asking myself why not buy it.

Bought this on a whim BUT looks like just the jig saw is $45 + $10 for the jig saw blades. Comes to $55. Not that big of a sale as I thought it was.

Going to reply back to my own post. I messaged them about the pricing error and they gave me credit back brining both for ~$27.00

Will keep it for that price. YMMV.

I have the corded version, and as someone who has purchased hundreds of quality tools, thought this would work as a "I just need it cut one hole" (my Dewalt was at home 100's of miles away). It is honestly one of the worst tools I have purchased. The problem is the blade deflects causing the cut to look like |\ instead of like |.

Tossed it in the garbage.
I did our vinyl floor with nothing but a cheap and crappy jigsaw. Big mistake. Never again.

Use to have this. It cut horribly so I bought one from a different brand. When the wife asked why I bought another, I pulled this out and did a test cut for her. It was the smoothest cut I've probably ever done. Piece of crap…

Do you mind providing a little more detail? You ordered the jug saw + blade set for $39, then you chatted them... about what "pricing error"?

The jig saw is $45 + $10 for the jig saw blades. Comes to $55 - that is not 50% off as stated for this deal. So I asked for a discount to ensure that I get the same 50% off.

I was comparing this deal with previous SD deals and it appears like this is a regular jig saw and not a "Brushless" one...the brushless usually goes for $79 or so...I just purchased the Milwaukee jig saw(mouse) with 2 batteries few days ago but am considering this bigger one. I have both Milwaukee & Ryobi systems...any advise is great..TIA
Quote from branr :
Just got the M12 jigsaw in the mail. That one has a lot of poor reviews due to not having a sight line blower. Debating swapping. I have batteries for both systems…
Few things more frustrating than a crappy jigsaw that won't cut straight. Bought the m12 5 years ago and that thing is junk... cut through it's own base first use, it's blade deflected so far. Went back to old $20 corded cheapy that cut better. Used a porter cable corded once that was actually pretty impressive. I'm holding out for the m18 Milwaukee which has stellar reviews and traditional sale price is around $99. If I were Ryobi only, I'd at least pony up for the brushless or just buy a corded.
