I purchased 6 of these for my home, was really excited about the premium features, and First Alert > Kiddie. I saw the reports of false alarms but discounted them, as I am always wary of 1 star reviews, especially when the rest are overwhelmingly positive.

14 nights after installing, woken up at 4am by a false alarm. All interconnected, so extremely distressing. Once was enough for me. Sadly, I returned them all. Wanted to love them!!

YMMV but it happened to me. Just providing a data point. Frown

These are not hardwired. There are currently no hardwired smoke alarms on the market that have Z-Wave capability.

I disagree. Hardwired also gets power from the wiring. It is not just for interconnectivity.
Fair enough. I'm not sure why they don't make hardwired Z-Wave alarms. I used to use regular alarms with the Ring listener, but then one of my old alarms went haywire and I couldn't figure out which one. I just decided to replace all 12 in my house with these, so at least they are all replaced at the same time and are consistent. That and I love the Ring ecosystem.

Did they stop selling the hard-wired ones? I have about 10 of them installed in one location.
You don't have hardwired detectors that also have Z-Wave, those don't exist. First Alert DOES make hardwired detectors, just not in combination with Z-Wave.

Costco still sells the hardwired First Alert fire alarms, but they don't have Z-Wave capability, which is the whole point of this model. So it works with Ring.

I don't understand. What is holding them back from making one?
Agree, doesn't make much sense to me. I've tried to find the answer before but have never had success. At one point I found a thread on Reddit talking about a company that had it on their roadmap but I don't recall which ones those were.

I think people on this thread are missing the whole point of this model. These are Z-Wave smoke alarms for those that use Ring Alarm system and subscribe to Ring Protect. The point are these are monitored and when the alarm sets off, someone from Ring will notify the fire department for you.

It seems unnecessary as they already interconnect wirelessly via the Ring Alarm base station.

Hardwired is for power with battery as backup, so no need to keep replacing batteries
It's a Z-Wave+ device, will work with any Z-Wave hub, not just Ring.

Someone contacted the customer service, like 2019, and they said they've been working on that but process was delayed. I quoted the source (it's from SmartThing forum) in the same deal thread last year or earlier but too lazy to dig that up.
I guess it's not going to happen.

They can provide all these features with a hardwired model Smilie

These are junk. I bought 6 of them on a previous deal and all 6 are now in the garbage. They eat batteries and false causing my dogs to have a panic attack. Yes I used the expensive energizers and yes they still burned through them.

Unless they decide to offer a wired version look elsewhere.

Just get the ring retrofit kit and plug in your hardwired alarms.

sounds like user error (cheap batteries) as these are well known detectors

The Ring retrofit kit just lets you use your old hardwired door and window sensors w/ the Ring Alarm system. It has nothing to do with Smoke & CO2. I think you meant to say the Ring Smoke & CO2 listeners.

I don't think this reply was meant for me. I own 12 of these and have no problems with them.

What if I don't want to pay a monthly ring subscription?

Then don't get this particular smoke alarm. This one is specifically made for Z-Wave and advertised as "Works with Ring". Costco carries non-Z-wave models as well. I don't see why you would pay more for a Z-Wave model without wired interconnect if you're not going to be taking advantage of Z-Wave.

Costco also sells these 2 hardwired models that are NOT Z-Wave compatible. One of which is much cheaper.
