Bought a couple of side bars ($300 a pop), one of them just had an incredible amount of issues including just a completely mismanufactered part. Customer service did help by shipping me that part, but the other issues are from general quality control issues. That being said I saved probably $500-$800 compared similar products. Just for context I've got ikea products over 20 years at this point. The drop in overall quality is pretty substantial, and finding anything in stock is tricky. So just know going in beyond higher prices, quality has went down in multiple ways.

I'd also say assembly has gotten harder based on fastener decisions, and will lead to a less sturdy product.

Ikea == Junk furniture... Bought a bunk bed with desk, the core of the desk is cardboard, not even particle board. My daughter easily poked a hole in it with a pencil. Customer service sucks, very unfriendly and unhelpful. never again.

You don't have much experience with Ikea if you truly believe that. We have several pieces from Ikea and they have all been great. Our twenty-year-old Ikea coffee table with real wood veneer still looks like new. Never had an issue with anything from them. And Ikea really isn't an e-commerce business, that's why they have those giant stores spread across the country.

As someone in the furniture business, you could add a zero to the end of that 20 and that would still be reasonable for the times. Cost of materials and labor is way up, and while it's going down, freight is still sky high. It is not uncommon to have container freight cost more than the actual product itself. A can used to cost 3k to ship and now its 30k. I think ikea has done an admirable job of absorbing a lot of these surcharges when they could have easily passed it onto the customer.
