The notes say if you have a Sirius radio Stern is standard, but not if you have an XM or SiriusXM radio.

I think my car is XM, but I can't stand Stern anyway.

I have had a SXM subscription in my vehicle for 8 years, never an issue receiving annual retention offers of around $5 per month, for 12 months, which included Howard Stern. My plan expires in mid-September, cancelled when the retention agent was unwilling/unable to do better than the OP's plan. Will allow the current plan to lapse, see if SXM will sweeten the pot.

This has streaming. What it lacks from the Platinum Plan is Howard Stern, Personalized Pandora stations, Stitcher premium podcasts, and some video content.

yeah active customers can't switch to it. Hope it's around in Nov.

I still have a ton of GCs from back in the day when they included with radios too
Ditto, mine ends in December though. Hope the offer is still on then. nod

An absolutely horrific service for music. Not the selection, the quality (compression). Somehow was much better 10 years ago than now.
That's the problem. Compression and quality. The plus side is the stuff you can get that you generally can't elsewhere, which you may not may not care about. Like Stern, if people still listen to him and the NFL games and others, which can pretty cool. Alos, getting reception out in no mans land. For some people XM is a blessing, for most, it is not.

I just don't see why anyone would have it now. We just tried it again after not having it for a few years and it's just so outdated. Free podcasts and curated playlists on Spotify blow it away.

You wonder if they are doing this to grab money now knowing Howard Stern may leave early and podcasts, etc are hurting their model.

I still think it's worth $4.99 a month.

I am an active subscriber whose 1yr term was about to end... I chatted with them an they applied the 2 year $5 month plan. The promo web page wouldn't allow it, but chatting did.

I had this for a few years but just grew tired of having to deal with customer service and beg, threaten to leave, etc. to keep my current rate.

So, I did something different and signed up for five years of Tune-In for $159.99. I only saw this promotion once. It really is like comparing apples to oranges when you compare Tune In to SiriusXM and Tune In is not for everyone. For me though I am happy with all that Tune In provides and I am good for the next five years without any nonsense with customer service.
You can chat with the customer service rep online now and they will give you the promo. Previously I also called after hours and was able to get the promo using the automated system. It's as if they already know to give the promo without any hassle. The people who pay full price just don't know how to get the price down.

The platinum includes more sports channels which is something I miss in the music and entertainment subscription. I like to catch my local sports when I travelling or driving out of state

Use a disposable card, canceling this was the most difficult of anything I have had to cancel
I'm a first time subscriber. Can it not be canceled through the online account?

As I related in another post, I have an Amazon Echo in my car, and I've had trouble with Tune-In being unavailable at time. I can get better sucess directly from the app, but I get a 30% discount on my car insurance (USAA) for not fondling my phone (plus other things) during drives. This plus data dropouts because my home drive is rural, means I'm giving SiriusXM a try again.

USAA member here. Can you please provide more details on the discount you referenced? Thanks.

PS I was not able to get the $5 rate for 24 mos via chat, only 12 mos.

$77 a yr isn't bad.
Worth the $
I have a Lifetime contract I bought in April 2008 for $515.
Someone said they had lifetime plan but you can only transfer it to another radio 4 times ever. A family could go through 4 radios, new cars etc. in just a few years, then no more XM even if get a new radio. Sounded ridiculous.

A few things.

Royalty fees and taxes will only go up. This deal hedges against that.

Save more (up to 20%) using Chase offers at Best Buy! They sell XM service cards. You might have rewards on your account as well. Add to XM account BEFORE you contact XM! Easier to bargain with reps when your account already has a credit.

Last, change billing address to A state that has no sales tax before you call. Do the deal to save ya another $20 plus.
Good luck.
