I owned one of these briefly. They sound decent, but the string action on mine was really high. I had to adjust the truss rod to lower it. The main reason I sold it was because the scale length is so short and the string tension was really high. It was hard to play up the neck. I wouldn't recommend learning on this.

Simple set up and it would have played terrific. Have had a number of these come in to set up, lower action and installed a few differences style of pickups.

These come with the action fairly high as a number of folks Love to use slide to play these. Install a Gretsch Deltoluxe and have some great slide acoustic blues tones.

Look up a few videos on YouTube, they show how to file down the bridge to lower the action, finish the nut and adjust the truss rod properly.

For the price of these, great lil travel guitar. Excellent for beginners, stay in tune very well even when travelling as the composite material doesn't expand and contract as much as most woods.

Have had one for a few years. Great camping guitar and have a blast with it doing some slide as well. Quite a fun Versitile little Guitar. They're the number 1 selling Gretsch for a reason and for the price, hard to beat.

Usually, the shorter the scale, the floppier the strings for the same tuning. I say usually, but I guess always, since it's basic physical law. Perhaps it comes with thicker strings than your used to?

I have one of these. It's cute and has nice sound. Just realize they're pretty small so might be bad if you have fat fingers and are just learning. Great for kids/teens and people who just don't want a bulky guitar.

Have one. Been playing 30 years. This is a great price. Fun guitar to play. Almost want to buy ten for those fun alternate tunings.

The pictures make it look like a toy.

The Fender FSR CC-60S deal is still available, and it's a fantastic guitar for the money. It even has a solid wood top.

OP and some reviewers are saying this has a rosewood fretboard, but description on product page says it's walnut. Rosewood can vary widely in density and hardness, but pretty much any species will be superior to walnut in those respects. It's not a dealbreaker and probably will have minimal impact on tone and playability, but it's an obvious cost cutting measure and folks should go into the purchase with correct information.

Completely different style of guitar. These are old style parlor guitars that are designed to sound like the old Mississippi delta blues guitars of the 30s-50s. They're incredible sounding guitars for the money. I've owned a few Martins and a Taylor, but I'll never sell my Jim Dandy. It's not the best sounding guitar for every genre, but it can't be beat for the price if you want to get into blues slide guitar, or just want that old blues sound. For a beginner that wants to play more modern music, I'd recommend skipping the Fender CD60s entirely and just getting a Yamaha FG800 or FS800. It's about $80 more, but sounds much better than the Fender. The Fender is a good guitar for the price, but a beginner is going to want to play more and progress in their learning if the guitar is more enjoyable to play. They rarely go on sale these days because of how popular they've become, but you can't get a better guitar for the money. They're just made to a much higher standard than budget Fender acoustics. They're incredibly popular because of it, and it's pretty common to find them for cheaper than the Fender in pawn shops, etc. I'd recommend going that route if you're not sure if you're going to stick with it.

The Fender is an objectively better guitar. $20 is a significant percent increase when you're talking a cost basis of $119, but I would encourage foregoing a couple of venti macchiatos to cover the delta. That is, if you're happy with the concert body and slightly larger scale.

Bought one of these the last time around and I love it. Small size makes it easy to play and makes it a good travel/knock-around guitar. And the sound is a little reminiscent of a resonator. It's just enjoyable to play. Highly recommended for the price.

Sure, and the Yamahas are great as well (my main is a CPX-8 from 2002), but my recommendation is only $20 more, and yours are $80 more. All of these guitars will need a good setup, which will cost probably $30-60.

I jumped on the Fender deal for a cheap everyday guitar that I don't have to worry about. The gloss is heavy-handed, but it sounds way better than I expected for the price point. Very long, warm sustain, and I'm sure it'll sound even better once I replace the stock strings.

I'm not sure how anyone could've convinced me at 13 that the B.C. Rich Warlock wasn't the greatest thing invented (Lita Ford obsessed, late 80's, hair bigger than I was). Fast forward 15ish years later, and I insisted both my kids start on acoustics. I let them pick them out (within reason) and that was the trade-off. If you're lucky enough to find a serious teacher or you or your kid has the talent, I don't think you could go wrong with any acoustic as a starter.🎸

It's very good in all of these areas, and for the price it's one of your best options. But you still need to decide for yourself if you'd rather start with acoustic or electric.
