Let's hit $299 around the holidays, and I'm replacing my Pitboss.

Back from Costco... I'm going to sit back to see if it drops in price, cook surface seems really small to me. At most, I can see using the base and the third level, using all 3 tiers looks tight to me. Also another negative thing for me is the warranty is only 1 year... peace of mind I would like to have seen this at 3 years.

Great price, if you can find it. I recently bought it through Walmart sale ($499) and it's sooo worth it. Learning to smoke these days with it.
The one from Walmart includes the griddle pan and manifold vs Costco which does not. I did a bunch of research before when Costco had theirs on sale for $499 a month and a half back. I believe if you purchased the griddle pan and smoker separately this would come out to the same deal Walmart just had (which I bought then)

lol I was trying to justify to myself... have gas, a weber, and Louisiana Grill (LG) pellet. I want to replace the LG with a recteq as I've only had it for 10 months and the board has already gone out. Recteq is local to me so figure that might be a better investment. The Masterbuilt is tempting as I do think charcoal taste better than pellet.
I love my recteq but it's the 590 and even with the modded shelf, it's a bit small so the masterbuilt is tempting. I know it'll give more smoke flavor, but I do read that it's prone to rust and I'm on the coast…still if I can get it at 399…

Lost all faith in masterbuilt when i had an issue with an electric smoker that was 2 months old. The part needed to fix it was on backorder but they said they would send jr when it became avalible. I contacted them on and off 3-4 times until they finally said it was no longer under warranty. I would advise people to stay away from the brand.

The grill is 250+ pounds so if they aren't aware of Costco's lifetime policy for anything non-electronic, then the 1 year warranty could be a deal breaker. Nobody wants to have a 250 pound outdoor paper weight after 1 year lol.

The justification is it replaces all of those grills. It is so quick to start up and stop. Occasionally clean up drippings and empty ash catch, but it is only a couple minutes slower to be ready than gas. Smokes better than a pellet. Charcoal roar when you want it.
Smokes better than a pellet? Can you use wood on this grill? Not sarcasm, genuinely don't know. From the description it sounds like a charcoal grill that functions like a pellet smoker.

Oh... think you're pointing out price dropping as it has .97 on the end. Think I'll just pass on it then.

Yes, you either mix in some wood chunks every few inches of the charcoal or add them in the bottom. I did the mix in method and got great smoke. As compared to pellets, this gives you the taste of real smokers with charcoal and real wood. But also gives you the ease of pellets where you can maintain same heat for many hours. The app seems to work, not great app but does the job.

While you can return it, getting a 250 lb smoker back to Costco is a truck rental and a friend for most people.

then what does it matter if it's a 1 year or 3 year? does it weigh less after three years?
