If you need better low light performance, I recommend looking for cameras which have larger sensors ..

Also, I prefer not to use dome cameras outdoors as UV and heat exposure eventually will cause failures in the dome / and seals in the dome. ( internal IR leaking issues )

Yes TheWolfLoki

Spray paint attacks are hard to fully counter .. only way I know is to have lots of cameras cover the approaches and also catching thieves before they can get close enough to pull out the spray paint.

To get a good angle for a facial ID camera need to be lower and thus can be attacked.

Exception of course is having cameras with tighter FOVs / stronger lenses and image capture further away from the cameras.
( example a camera with a 6mm lens mounted at 10' high is good from image captures further away from the camera )

Moisture in the cameras:
Most of the cameras we can afford to buy will have moisture issues potentially.

Best for us to find ways to reduce moisture by ensuring we use drip loops if mounting the cameras outdoors with exposed cabling.
( hint: I really like junction boxes and silicone caulk + coax seal / silicone stretch tape .. )

If you see moisture in the camera, you want to open it up and dry it out .. and dry out the silicon gel packs .. eventually moisture kills electronics ..

Hi ionizier

Reolink cameras have a reputation for compatibility issues with other OEMs of NVRs .. I'd try to look for Uniview cameras for your NVR for best results

Hi Samham

See the LPR section of ipcamtalk .. license plate reading can be an art form, especially at night.

During the day, it's a question of pixels on target and angle to the plate if the car is not moving too quickly.
( see the DORI section of the cliff notes at ipcamtalk for the math on DORI .. license plates iirc need 60-80 ppf for a good image )

Hi Toppdealer

Monthly subscription services like Arlo / Nest / Ring are able to afford paying software and UI engineers to continuously improve the quality of the product.

Thus imho you have to decide what is most important for you.

Blue Iris is well liked for a VMS, however Reolink has issues with Blue Iris .. for example look up the iframe issues ..

Hi DaCeige, lhan27ph

Also remember "varifocal" cameras are largely designed for you to customize and set the FOV to optimize the view you want, not for zooming in and out with the same frequency as a PTZ camera ( which has stronger more durable PTZ motor and gear elements )
I bricked mine during a firmware update. They responded within a day and ordered me a replacement via Amazon. I've also contacts support about other things and they have always been responsive. Guess it depends.
I have also had great success with them. I dropped mine, because I'm an idiot, and shattered the glass lens. I'm pretty handy, so I asked them if I could get a new lens, and they shipped me an entirely new camera out the next day.

not impressed with Reolink's motorized cameras, failing to focus, moisture inside lens etc. And Reolink warranty is a joke, good luck getting the defective camera replaced without jumping through hoops

I recently had a problem with the NVR, think my system got fried due to lightening storm. I bought the system on black friday so about 10 months ago. Took them 2 days through email after troubleshooting like 2 things. And about 1 week to send off a new system to me. All in all, pretty pleasant and easy dealing with support.

I did have to send back the old system with my own money. Doesn't seem like they were forcing me though. I already had the new system on hand

I really need a good camera system but so many cameras are hit and miss, I would love to have a system that was detailed enough to read a license plate or come closes with out spending a fortune maybe these are it.

Lorex didn't help me out despite me buying multiple systems from them.

Camera went bad due to moisture inside camera and they went only 1 year warranty.

Meanwhile I have given them nearly 5k in business over the yeads

Is there any good NVR and/or software to pair to this that would make the UI somewhat close to what you can get with Arlo/Nest/Ring? I used to have something like this; with far superior hardware specs as the consumer grade stuff, but I always found the UI so poor that I ended up preferring a better app for 80% quality. Thoughts?

I've been using Reolink for just shy of two years now and I feel there support is better than a lot of the other brands out there. They are fast in response and getting things shipped out right away. Growing online support community too. For the pricing and what you get out of their products, I think they're doing great in my opinion.

One thing I wish they did have was a camera that can read plates (as someone else stated) and I understand it's pricey to accomplish but money is not an issue for that functionality for me.

Hope this helps!
