I can't speak for this model in particular but we sold Elitebooks to all our clients at previous job. They are metal/aluminum and feel very sturdy. The keyboard on these things have like 40 screws on the bottom side. The Team that handles the warranty is great too. Made tons of accidental damage claims after Covid and was very easy. Any hardware problems just run the HP Diagnostic Tool ahead of time, either from Windows or update the HP tool and run it before booting to windows and give them the result code.

I bought an Elitebook X2 G3 off eBay 1.5 years ago and it had some warranty left. The screen was flickering a little, maybe my fault? They put my MOBO in a new case/new screen/ new keyboard and I pretty much got a new laptop.

HP Image Assistant is a nice tool to update the drivers. It's a manual program, not an automated one like HP Support Assistant, but way faster to just highlight all and update real quick. I think all Elitebooks come with the Wolf security AV now? I loaded it on mine to try (I usually use nothing/windows Defender). I don't notice any down sides and it's been completely free lol

If you can extend your budget, I highly recommend to check these.

I would have bought 16" if I haven't already gotten the ASUS S 14X Oled one.
The 16" has 80+ Watt Hour battery which should last long and has Ryzen 6850 Pro

Is the RAM soldiered on these? I see it's upgradable but wondering if what's already there is soldered.

I got the 8th gen 14 inch model - HP Elitebook 845 G8 in a similiar deal for $6xx earlier in April. Am pretty happy with it.

For mine only cons are the power button being a keyboard key next to delete and the wifi card being a lesser brand one. Build quality, display, keyboard and mouse are decent. Both ram slots are upgradable in mine.

These laptop are similiar to T series thinkpads which usually is a lot more.

Both ram slots are upgradable. But always good to chat with rep once before purchase.

I have a gen 3 elitebook and have used a number of them. Well-built, not a lot of bloat, good features and performance and probably as stable/durable as you can expect out of a laptop. I still use my gen3 regularly and it has been what I use for everyday stuff (read: not gaming) for a few years.

If I hadn't recently snagged a couple of other HP laptops recently (a 17" with some extra stuff and a chromebook, both at what I thought were solid prices), I would definitely be considering this.

Should I buy this or the more powerful one?

HP EliteBook 865 G9 Wolf pro Security Edition: 16" FHD+ IPS, RYZEN 7 PRO 6850U, 32GB DDR5, 1TB PCIe SSD, USB4, Win10 Pro @ $1265.65 + F/S

I would go for the cheaper Ryzen 5 one. These days not much difference between Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7, especially considering the U series thinand light cpu's will be thermally limited for heavy loads.

Other than the cpu the other differences appear to be USB4, extra 16gbram and Bigger 1ttb ssd. To me those don't warrant a $400 price increase.

If my budget is 12xx then a better option is the ThinkPad t16.
