It has the i7-12700H and new air flow design with 5 cooling tubes and other improved air flow allowing the 3060 to juice up.

3060 for 1200$ is a bit too much now, despite the ram and cpu

For those familiar with these new HP units, how do they stack up compared to the Legion lineup? Are they more competitors to the basic Legion 5s, or 5 Pros? I imagine they're still a step down from the Legion 7s.

How does compare to the MSI that's going to be on sale at Costco? The specs and price seem the same.

This is smaller, but the screen is better. The screen on the GE76 at Costco has terrible color accuracy. This also has DDR5 RAM (though a review at Costco claims that theirs came with DDR5 also).

But I can't speak to quality or reliability.

Just picked this one up actually. Thermals are terrible, and the HP omen software doesn't have the quiet mode anymore so fans are annoying. Cinebench R23 multi scores are decent at around 16000 - but thermal throttles out of the box. Had to use intel XTU to cap the boost to around 90w. When gaming, CPU hits around 94c max. Looks like good value on paper, but HP just stuffed a really powerful CPU into a chassis that can't handle it while providing terrible software.

On the flip side, I've also tested the Zephyrus M16 when it went on sale a couple weeks ago... that one has decent thermals and could even top out it's cinebench score to around 19300! I really can't vouch for Asus though - my G15 is sadly going back to the repair center. Make sure to get warranty folks!

Did you get this exact one or the previous iteration? I know the last one had bad thermals and sounded like they tried hard to fix that in this iteration. Even gave up battery size to fit more fans.

This exact configuration. Granted my unit was open box so I could have had a dud. I'm still deciding if I want to exchange for a brand new one so I'll update this thread if I do.

Does it charge through USB C? ports show power delivery but I've seen reports that it doesn't charge through USB C.

Yep I'm using my 100w USB C charger. It charged pretty fast so I'm thinking it supports at least 60w

Just got a BIOS update, fans are being more effective but still inconsistent. I think there might be wrong with the software that controls the fans. Thermals are now decent, just cap the CPU wattage to 80w and peak temps during Cinebench R23 go up to 92c with a score of around 16000. Not bad but again Lenovo Legion 7 with the same CPU can reach cinebench r23 scores of up to 17000-18000 + with better thermals. That performance difference alone is not worth the premium of paying for a Lenovo (but maybe the screen with G-Sync and higher brightness is)

Edit: the fans are still audible during light usage
