The non-Fuel versions of these tools are not so great. The oscillating Multi-Tool is especially lame. And the battery is too small and underpowered.
I have both M12 Fuel and M18 Fuel for each of these tools. I agree those a way superior to these. But they cost way more, too. For those who need a set of power tools to drive some little screws here and these once awhile, and don't want to spend too much, this is what I'd go for.

Maybe. But 12v just is so weak without the fuel aspect. I had to return the multi tool for the fuel because it was just too annoying having it stop all the time

without describing what your applications are, it's hard to imagine how weak it is. Even the M12 Fuel is underpowered at some certain tasks, too. I wouldn't use it to cut 200 pieces of screws a day either.

I was cutting fairly soft vynil plank around a toilet. Fuel worked fine. Non fuel kept stopping and made the vynil burn/smell.
I get that this is a decent deal. And good to have one around. But if you have a project planned I'd spring for the fuel.
Would a ryobi or a ridgid be better then this one if it is as bad as you say? I'm in the ridgid ecosystem fyi
It's all relative- whether this set or another brand you get what you pay for. For very light duty homeowner usage this is fine - anything more than that you should upgrade. If you are looking to get into Milwaukee this isn't really that great of a set to do that with.

Battery is underpowered for these tools and the non fuel M12 ocillatiting tool should be avoided,
