I''m no expert, but I've owned both low-end Chromebooks and low-end Windows laptops and the Windows machine I have has sat untouched for over a year. Windows requires much more resources to run smoothly; it's slow enough to me to be unusable.

Conversely, I have 3 Chromebooks that we use daily. If you're using it for just email, YouTube, and surfing the web, I say Chromebook all the way.

Screen isn't bad but not high-end tablet either (tad washed out), I end up watching a lot of Netflix on the MT8183 while using my work PC....so clearly it is fine for my use. Might be bad in direct sunlight though. Battery life is great, I charge perhaps once, maybe twice per week.

Rather heavy to use as a tablet. Doable but very heavy for a 'tablet.'

I bought this about 2 months ago because I had surgery on my bicep tendon. I would have limited use of one arm for some time. Figured I'd rather drop this than my Samsung Tab S7+. No longer have that concern but I end up using this cheapo tablet much more often than my Samsung even if the S7 is by far the better machine and has a nicer screen. The always attached keyboard and infinitely adjustable display angle are really nice on a 2-1 as compared to a tablet in a folio case. The built in (web) "apps" are nice as well. You can do a lot of light computing such as word processing, emails, spreadsheets on this much easier than a true tablet.

And 4GB is more than enough on a Chromebook. I don't know what world these "iTs OnLy GoT 4gB!" people are living.

I think using the hinge to use the keyboard half as a screen stand of sorts, will work fine, as will "tent" mode. It's going to be too thick and heavy to use as a handheld tablet, if that's what you meant.

That said, if you aren't going to be using the keyboard, you would almost-certainly be better off with an actual tablet. The screen resolution is too low, and the screen too dim, to be a great media-playback device.

Speaking for myself, it'll live next to the couch as a web browsing, reddit, e-mail, etc. device; but I suspect I'll still be using my iPad for any video.

Gonna snag this and give it a try. My Acer hit the end of the auto-updates a couple months ago and been looking to upgrade. Would love to find something with 8GB of RAM, but price for a Chromebook with those specs don't seem worth it. I guess if this thing is as slow as molasses, or if the screen is crappy, then I'll return it...though my current one barely cracks 8000 on the Octane score and I've been fine with it for 6 years, lol

What do you want to use it for? If you have a specific need for a full-fledged PC, obviously Windows is the natural budget choice. If everything you do can be accomplished through a web browser, then a Chromebook will, given the same specs, run much better, since it doesn't have to drag all the overhead and baggage of Windows along.
