Most new Samsung SSD drives have a 5 year warranty (I didn't check everyone on sale at Best Buy).

The refurbs get rapped because the warranty is 90 days.

How does Geek Squad of all people "refurb" an SSD? Sounds like they are just selling a returned SSD.

Normally I'm fine with Geek Squad Samsung drives, most of them are basically new anyways however you can find similar perforce brand new for about this price or even cheaper lately. SSD prices are expected to fall down further.

Side note the refurb warranty is actually incorrect, not sure why Bestbuy has that up on the website, probably trying to be conservative. You can indeed register these drives on Samsung.com and get the remainder of the warranty starting from manufacturing date. Most brands limit their first party refurbished warranty to 90 days, for 3rd party or open box realisticly speaking they don't have a track record, some downright reject but some count the rest. From my personal experience most PC parts manufacturers will award legitimate warranty claims even if you don't have a receipt, they just count from the day they left the factory

Geek Squad doesn't refurb anything nor are they qualified to do so. These are just customer returns that they are reselling.

They may be returns, but they still get refurbished. If there's no defect, they are sold as open-box for a discount. Refurbs are a different category.

While it's true that their in-store Geek Squad techs are not refurbishing these, Best Buy's website states that refurbished products are refurbished "either by one of Best Buy's in-house repair centers, the manufacturer or a third-party refurbishment company."
