Obviously these will be slow compared to cpus in the past couple years...but the people buying these are buying them for the reliability and build quality in a system used for office or school work. Those are tasks these systems handle well. You also get a MUCH better screen than you would in most modern systems under $500. I recently bought a refurbished Latitude 7490 myself and it was immaculate. The refurbisher had also packed in a new battery. 8-10 hours of run time in a 250 dollar system that can do everything from spreadsheets to video and audio editing with a nice 300 nit screen isn't bad at all. And no flimsy keyboard to deal with.

These will probably last longer than brand new budget consumer laptops. Business grade devices tend to be more durable and repairable.

These are nice units... I picked up a couple with i5-8350u, 16gb RAM and 256Gb SSD for $250 each a couple of weeks ago for my kids to use for school... the units looked nearly new and came with USB-C chargers...

I went ahead and ordered a unit this morning with i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD for $275 and got $40 back using AMEX deal... never hurts to have a spare...

Looks like all the 7390 are out of stock now? I had it in cart and it just disappeared. I got the next best option 7280 with i7. https://www.dellrefurbished.com/i...000141&p=1 for $247.
Ya it appears Dell is OOS and the deal is dead.

Added this deal to the cart and applied the coupon - $295.xx. That's before shipping or other junk. The $220 versions seem gone.

I have an Asus 15inch laptop with nearly the same specs. 8G of RAM, identical CPU, 1080p screen. As a laptop, it is really good for anything I do. That includes normal end-user junk, but also running a few VMs/Containers and creating server-side webapps.

I don't use MS-Windows, so perhaps my OS is just so much more efficient that a monster CPU isn't needed? IDK. Haven't seen MSFT stuff since Win7.

The 13.3 screen at 1080p is something I miss from a prior laptop. 15 in is just too large for my needs, but going to 768p means losing 200+ px of resolution, which I cannot have.
When I first got my Asus (also a used model), the battery life was over 8 hrs.

If this was a 10th-gen for $350 with all the other specs, I'd have already bought it - before posting here. The 10th-gen CPUs were a big jump in capability.

BTW, my desktops all run Ryzens with around 20K passmarks, so a 56t00 passmark system really isn't much different in real world uses for 95% of people.

Don't get a laptop without a real GPU if you want to do video editing, but for office and watching netflix, this is 100% fine.

The main reason I'd want a Dell is to get their better keyboards. All other brands seem to have shitty keyboards that wear our far too fast.

Did the amex deal go through? It says "This offer does not apply to refurbished items, systems or spare parts...." under the offer terms.

Nope, still pending... I'll keep an eye on it... Honestly, even if the discount doesn't get applied I'll still contact AMEX and ask for it... sometimes they'll give it to you based on Goodwill... if you're have an account in good standing...

should I return the $129 Lenovo laptop I bought the other day and buy this? That one appears a bit slow and I need to buy a hard drive to add to the existing 64gb.

Are these even worth it or will it become a paper weight in a year?

I still run my 7275 tablet with windows 11, and pop_os and it has a m5-6y57. Runs just fine, but 8 GB is the limiting factor on these units. As long as you can upgrade the RAM, it's good to go.

Big thing about the latitudes is the ease of repair. No funky hidden screws and no special tools needed.

Order #uxyz1234 On Hold: Manual Verification Required

Is it because I placed the order on the weekend/holiday?

Depends on your requirements. I didn't think Win10 support ended until 2025. If you aren't tied to Windows, this system can work for 10+ more years. People run lite Linux-based OSes on hardware from 2000 still and full desktop variants on 2008 and new hardware with some caveats.

So the answer is "it depends."
If you must have Win11 and you are non-technical (you did ask this question which could be easily researched online), then just buy a system that comes with Win11 pre-installed and spent $800+.

Wow! I ordered another configuration from this post...a Precision Workstation with 32gb RAM for like $250. The laptop that came in was 64gb RAM, with an SSD that wasn't in the original specs. This thing is amazing. I'm soooooooooo happy.
