Example: The publisher sells 10,000 copies to company x and then turns around and buys 10,000 copies from company x before they have even been delivered. Since most companies dropship, the sale is recorded but the books never even leave the warehouse or in some cases are even printed yet. Rinse and repeat and voila, you now have a book on the best seller list and you make up for the cost of the books "bought" by the publisher with the proceeds of books bought by consumers.

Lol. I seen the names of Schiff and Abrams while trying to give an honest read of the preview.
